Effectiveness of English Practical Examination (Listening and Speaking) in the S.L.C.

Abstract

This thesis is an effort to find out the Effectiveness of English Practical Examination (Listening and Speaking) In the SLC. It has been carried out practically. Hundred students having passed the SLC 2065 and 2066 B.S. being involved in the practical exam and 20 monitors involved in the evaluation were the sample population of this work. In course of this research study fifteen public and five private (English medium) Schools were selected and the marks obtained by the students of those schools were collected and analyzed. Then two sets of questionnaires; one for the monitors and the other for the S.L.C. candidates were used and information was gathered. After analyzing and interpreting the gathered information obtained from the informants the findings are derived. The findings of this study show that the practical exam in the S.L.C. has failed to fulfill the objectives of the curriculum and it has been ineffective because of its evaluation system. The first chapter deals with general background of the study, review of related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The second chapter includes the research methodology, data collection procedures and limitation of the study. The third chapter deals with the analysis, tabulation and interpretation of data which has been done on the basis of information gathered from the informants and marks obtained by the sample population. The Chapter four includes the findings and recommendations of the study. With the help of analysis and interpretation, some findings have been drawn and some recommendations based on those findings have been presented. The final part of the thesis entails bibliography and appendices.
