Problem faced by mathematics teacher at secondary level

Abstract

The main purpose of this study was to identify the problems of mathematics teacher in teaching mathematics and also to compare the teaching problems faced by mathematics teacher of community and institutional school. The mix method: quantitative and qualitative approach was adopted to conduct the study. To achieve objectives, the researcher maintained some literatures that were related to study. The researcher prepared tools; questionnaire, class observation form and interview schedule were applied to find out the related information. Fifty secondary schools of Kathmandu district were selected for this study. Among them twenty-five were from community schools and twenty-five were from institutional schools. The researcher categorized whole data into problem related to physical facilities, Evaluation system, Teaching methods, curriculum and impact of social media. The researcher found that there are myriad of problems that causes teacher inefficient and unenthusiastic to execute their duties properly in the class room. According to the teachers most of the problems faced by them are lack of physical facilities in the class room, unavailability of curriculum in the school, lack of appropriate teaching method, lack of practice and proper guidance for students to learn mathematics, lack of student’s interest to learn mathematics due to excessive use of social sites and evaluation system is summative rather than formative. The researcher concluded that the teachers of both community and institutional school had to face many problems for teaching mathematics at secondary level.
