Use of information and communication technology to promote learner autonomy at master level

Abstract

This is a study on the Use of Information and Communication Technology to Promote the Learner Autonomy at Master Level. It mainly aimed to explore the existing practices of using ICTs by the master level students for their learning and to identify their views regarding the usefulness of ICT to promote learner autonomy. This study followed survey research design. The population of the study included all M.Ed. students of Department of English Education. The sample of the study consisted 80 students who were selected by simple random sampling procedure. The major tool of data collection was the questionnaire including open-ended and closeended questions. The data were analyzed and interpreted descriptively by using

simple statistical tools and tabulation. The major finding of the study showed that

students’ views on the usefulness of ICT are very positive, all of the students use ICT

for their learning and they regularly use different ICT tools and resources for their

self-learning.

This research consists of five different chapters. Out of them, chapter one is the introductory part of this study. It incorporates background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definition of the key terms. Second chapter deals with review of theoretical literature and the review of empirical literature as well as the conceptual framework. Third chapter is the part of methodology. This part includes research design and method of study, population of the sample, data collection tool, reliability and validity of tools, data collection procedures, data analysis process, ethical consideration and sources of data. Similarly, fourth chapter deals with results and discussion and it has incorporated the analysis of the data and the results. The fifth chapter includes findings of the study, conclusion and implications of the study. In the same way references and appendices have systematically been included in the final part of this thesis.
