Abstract
Bal Krishna Sama's play Prahlad(1995 B.S.) tries to present the different
aspects of contemporary Nepal. Hiranyakashipu, advocate of science and technology,
pays great attention to suppress the god advocate like Prahlad. Around him the lives
of Danavapura dwellers unfold the situation-the passionate pluto housewife, lovesick
teenagers, scientific research, domination of spirituality and resistance against the
oppression. By including such events within Danavapura, Sama has observed the
follies and miseries of Nepalese society. Throughout Prahlad, there is a constant co-
mingling of the physical, material and mundane life with the spiritual and divine
sentiments. All of the scenario is transformed, however, into a microcosm of society,
that provides Hindu insights into the nature of reality. Through the window of
Danavapura, Bal Krishna Sama creates an intimate and intricate portrait of life in a
beautiful Nepalese society
