Abstract
This thesis entitled“A Study of Errors Committed by TharuLearners of English in Subject-Verb Agreement”aims at finding outerrors and proficiency of Tharu learners of English particularly ninthgraders of public schools. This study is beneficial to the related andinterested personnel. For this study, the researcher utilized objective tool, suchas a testitem,which was administered to the target group and counted the errorsand scored the proficiency as aiming at fulfilling the objectives. Afteranalyzing and interpreting the proficiency and errors, the researcherfound that proficiency was not satisfactory. In total students performedbetter in item ‘A’.Students committed more errors inmainverbs ratherthan ‘be’, ‘have’ and ‘do’ verbs andboys committedmore errors thangirls. This research attempt is divided into four chapters. The firstchapter entitled ‘Introduction’ provides general background, Englishlanguage in Nepalese context, the Tharu language, an error, importanceof grammar, subject-verb agreement, definition of the terms, review oftherelated literature and objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with themethodology adopted for thestudy under which the sources of data, population of the study, samplingprocedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection andlimitation of the study are mentioned. The third chapter deals with analysis and interpretation of the dataunder which total errors and total proficiency were analyzed andinterpreted statistically and descriptively. Both errors and proficiencywere vividly interpreted in terms of different variables such as sex, schooland item. VII The fourth chapter contains findings and recommendations of thestudy. On the basis of analysis and interpretation of the data, somefindings were listed and some recommendations were suggested in thischapter.This chapter is followed by references and appendices.
