Nietzsche’s Critique of Modernity in Beyond Good and Evil

Abstract

This research attempts to study Nietzsche’s Beyond Good and Evil as a critique of modernity. By probing into the prejudices of philosophers and modern ideas, Nietzsche appeals to enact self-overcoming of the discontents of modern age. He aims to move modern individuals from prejudice towards truthfulness by attempting to radicalize them with a new measure of nobility of human beings. Beyond merely questioning the value of truth, Nietzsche evaluates by the measure of psychological strength, and describes the character of nobility beyond good and evil and beyond truth and falsity. Nietzsche’s attempt to establish a transvaluation of values ultimately establishes itself as a prelude to a new philosophy based on will to power, the judgment of which lies beyond the binaries of good and evil.
