dc.description.abstract | Maithili belongs to the Eastern sub-Aryan family. It forms a sub-group. With Bhojpuri, Magahi and is linguistically closer to Assamese, Bengali and Oriya than to its more contiguous languages, namely, Hindi and Nepali. It is the second major language of Nepal. This work entitled "Lexical Variation in the social Dialect in Maithili as spoken in Saptari District" attempts to describe the lexical variation in the Maithili in terms of class structures. This thesis consists four chapters. First chapter gives general background and brief history of Maithili. The second chapter deals with Dialects of Maithili and Genetic classification; and third chapter presents the varieties of Maithili and lexical variation. The last chapter presents a brief conclusion. | en_US |
