| dc.description.abstract | The present thesis studies the subversion of traditional concept of gender rolesby the female characters in Sheeba Shah’sFacing My Phantoms.It presents womenas active, domineering, independent, rational, courageous.The male characters arepassive, helpless, dominated, dependent and hence, they can not accomplish theirassigned masculine trait. So, their masculinity falls into crisis and then is subverted.But the major female character, Sanjeevani is bold, active, rational and self-reliant tohandle the bad situation of her family. The way she behaves in her family, holds talkwith Maoist cadres, breaks rules and regulation of patriarchy are noteworthy herewhich are strong evidences to subvert the traditional notion of gender roles. | en_US |
