Abstract
The presentstudy “Strategies Used by Primary Level Teachers in TeachingTenses” is carried out to find out the strategiesused by primary level teachers inteaching tense.It is carried out by comparing between trained and untrainedteachers. Thecomparison has been made intwo respects viz, sample of lessonpresentation and actual strategies or techniques usedin the classroom. By the useofrandom sampling procedure the researcher selectedtwenty primary levelEnglish teachers from seventeen schools of Arghakhanchi district. Six classes ofeach teacher were observed by using observation checklists.The researchercollecteddata by distributing questionnairesand observing the classes of theEnglish teachers while they were teachingtenses. This study shows that whileteachingtensetrained teachers frequently usestrategies viz labour participation,questioning, drill, demonstration, co-operative,oral exercise, communicativeexercise, written exercise, problem solving, discussion and active learning whereasuntrained teachers use explanation, illustration and deductivein most part of theinstructional time.The comparison showedthat in many of the strategies andlesson presentation the positionoftrained teacherswas found comparatively betterthan the positionof untrained teachers.
This study is divided into four main chapters. The first chapter deals with generalintroduction of thestudy;it also consists of review of the related literature,objectives and significance of study. Chapter two dealswithmethodology,populationof the study, sampling procedure,tools for data collection andlimitations of the study. Chapter three deals with an analysis and interpretation ofthe collected data. Final chapter includes findings and recommendations. On thebasis of the analyzed data findings have been listed and, in turn, onthe basis ofthese findingssome recommendations have been made.
