Abstract
The present study entitled “Perception of M. Ed. English Students on Exam
Focused Printed Materials” was carried out to find out perception of the students
towards guides, guess papers and solution books prepared for the course
‘Phonetics and Phonology’. To find out perception of the students, I used two sets
of questionnaire. Data collected from informants were tabulated and analyzed
applying simple statistical tools i.e. tables, bar diagram and pie- chart. From the
collected data, I found that exam focused printed materials i.e. guides, guess
papers and solution books were useful especially only for the students who did not
take classes regularly or those students who could not manage proper time for
their study. Moreover, most of the students were found using such material to
identify ways of starting and ending of questions. But the students were not
satisfied with the quality of materials i.e. typing, printing, completeness of
information, authenticity of information and paper quality. The students suggested
their friends to consult authentic materials rather to depend upon guess papers and
guides. Furthermore, the informants suggested writers and producers of the
materials to improve the level of standard although majority of the students were
against the role of guides and guess papers on students exam preparation.
This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one consists of general background,
review of related literature, objectives and significance of the study. Chapter two
consists of methodology adapted in course of study i.e. both primary and
secondary sources of data, sampling population and sampling procedures, process
of data collection, tools for data collection and limitations of the study. Chapter
three presents analysis and interpretations of the data obtained through primary
sources. Similarly, chapter four contains findings and recommendations which are
derived with the help of analysis and interpretation of data. References and
appendices are also included at the end of this work to make more valid.
