Abstract
The present study entitled “Use of Realia in Teaching Speaking Skill” is an attempt to find out the effectiveness of realias in developing grade four students’ proficiency on speaking skill. In order to carry out this study, the researcher selected the thirty-two students of grade four from a private school of Kathmandu district named Capitol Hill Academy using non-random purposive sampling procedure. The researcher used both primary and secondary sources of data. The primary data was elicited from thirty-two students of grade four of the selected school. After selecting the sample population, a pre-test was administered to determine the students’ initial proficiency on speaking skill. After that twenty-one lessons were taught using realias. Two progressive tests were conducted in the interval of seven days. And, finally, the post-test was administered using the same test items asked in the pre-test. Through the analysis and interpretation of the data, it was found that realias were effective in teaching speaking skill than without using them. This study incorporates four main chapters and others many sub-chapters. The first chapter deals with general background of the study review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter consists of the methodology, sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, procedure for data collection and limitations of the study. Similarly, the third chapter includes the analysis and interpretation of data. In the same way, the fourth chapter presents findings and recommendations based on the analysis and interpretation of the collected data. The final part of the study consists of references and appendixes.
