An attempt of Taming nature: A Doom to Life in Hemingway’s The Old Man and The Sea

Abstract

The present thesis grounded on Hemingway’s The Old Man and the Sea derives theoretical forays from eco criticism. The research makes a critique of mankind’s collusion with nature that ultimately results in disaster and disharmony, implicitly putting question mark in the existence of humanity to come. This thesis heavily centers on the activity and sensitivity of Santiago, the protagonist of Hemingway’s novel that demonstrates his suffering and anxiety as soon as he encroaches the world of fish for the commercial purpose.
