Abstract
This thesis has been done to find out the effectiveness of matchstick figures in
teaching adjectives for grade seven students. It has been done practically and
comparatively. To carry out the research forty students of grade seven studying
at Shree Bharati Secondary School, located at Chungmang-5, Dhankuta were
selected as sample population by stratified random sampling procedure. Out of
one hundred adjectives included in the textbook of grade seven, only about
fifty adjectives had been selected for the research. The written examinations
were conducted. A set of five types of test items was administered as the pretest before teaching to determine the proficiency of the students. Then, they
were divided into two groups on the basis of odd-even roll no. according to the
individual scores of the pre-test. One group was taught adjectives using
matchstick figures and the other without using them. After teaching three
weeks, the post-test was administered. The results of both tests were compared
to determine the effectiveness of matchstick figures. It was found that teaching
adjectives through matchstick figures at grade seven proved more effective.
This thesis is divided into four chapters. The first chapter consists of general
background, review of related literature, objectives of the study and
significance of the study. The second chapter deals with methodology used
during the research work. Forty students of grade seven were chosen and
divided them into two groups; 'Experimental' and 'Controlled' groups. The
experimental group was taught adjectives using matchstick figures and the
controlled was taught with usual classroom techniques. Pre-test and post-test
were administered to measure the effectiveness of matchstick figures. The
questionnaire having fifty items was used to collect data. The five types of test
items; 'multiple choice items', 'matching items', 'completion test', 'true false
items' and 'word formation test' were included in the questionnaire. In the third
chapter the obtained data were analyzed and interpreted on the basis of the
difference between the average score in percentage of each group in the pre-test
and post-test. The data were also analyzed in terms of average or mean( ̅) and
standard deviation. In chapter four, some findings have been drawn and some
recommendations have been mentioned with the help of analysis and
interpretation
