Abstract
The objective of this study of the irony on the romantic notion in the play is to
satirize the war and family affair in the society. Irony as a discursive strategy has been
used to satirize and to provoke romantic comedy at the same time. Use of ironic
language and ironically elliptical narrative has been employed to foreground the war
that has been resulted in imbalanced relationship between characters in the drama.
The issue of war between Bulgaria and Serbia and its effect as an irony upon the
character involved in the war is vital in this study. Dramatic irony occurs when the
audience knows more than one or several of the characters on the stage,a condition
which pushes audience attention into the future because it creates anticipation about
what is going to happen when the truth comes out. It is the analysis of what is said
and what is unsaid in the drama.
