Socio-Economic Condition Offreed Kamaiya (A Case Study of Dhangadhi Municipality,Kailali District,Nepal)

Abstract

This study is focused to analyze the socio-economic conditionand identify their problems of Freed Kamaiyas focusing oneducational status, income level, and resettlement pattern andhealth and indebtedness condition in their life. Study areaKailali district has been selected on the basis of availability ofthe Freed Tharu Kamaiyas' settlement. The first Kamaiyas liberation movements started form Kailali onfirst may 2000. For getting the pre determined purposedobjectives, sixty out of 208 households were selected as sampleby the simple random sampling method with out replacement. The total population distribution of sixty samples HHs of TharuFreed Kamaiya in Dhangadhi municipality is 324. The malepopulation is 51.8 percent and female population is 48.2percent. The members of family are 5.4 in average. Majority of population belongs to age group of zero to twelveand minority of population of age sixty to above which iseconomically inactive population. Working age of Tharu FreedKamaiyas is counted from thirteen to fifty-nine. The highpercent (91.67) of Tharu Freed Kamaiyas live in nuclear family. The illiteracy rate of Tharu Freed Kamaiyas is in high i.e. 57.6percent, only one student is found attending secondary level.The settlement of Tharu Freed Kamaiyas in Dhangadhi municipality is side of the jungle and all houses are made of soiland roof of teen. Of the total 31.67 percent houses are found in deplorablecondition. It was found that 18.33 percent Tharu FreedKamaiyas are working in others land in the form of wage laborand 68.33 percent HHs are surviving in less than Rs. 2000 inmonthly income. Similarly 8.33 person children are working asdomestic labor under the salary basis aged from seven tofourteen.
