Abstract
This research entitled “Teachers’ Perception of Their Role in Promoting
Learner Autonomy” is an attempt to find out the perception of their roles in
promoting learner autonomy. The data for the study were collected from
Higher Secondary Level English Language Teachers following non-random
sampling procedure; forty teachers were selected as sample. The collected data
were analyzed and interpreted qualitatively as well as quantitatively. The
research findings showed that learner autonomy is a learner-centered learning
activity in which they take the responsibility of their learning and the teachers’
role must be dynamic in order to produce self-reliant and self-dependent
learners.
The study consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the general
background of the study, statement of the problem, rationale and objectives of
the study, research questions, significance of the study and operational
definitions of the key terms. Similarly, the second chapter consists of the
review of related literature and conceptual framework. This chapter comprises
review of related literature, implications of the review for the study, theoretical
framework and conceptual framework. Likewise, the third chapter is about the
methodology used in the process of this study. It deals with the design of the
study, population and sample, sampling procedure, data collection tools and
data collection procedures. In the same way, the fourth chapter consists of
results and discussion, analysis and interpretation of data. Similarly, the fifth
chapter presents the summary, conclusions and implications (policy level,
practice level and further research) of the study drawn on the basis of the
analysis and interpretation of data. Finally, this chapter is followed by
references and appendices.
