Family as a Healing Force in Mistry's Family Matters

Abstract

The present research subverts the orientlistic perspective on eastern extended family how the west overlooks its significances. Moreover, it exposes some mislead- ing aspects of the nuclear family that emphasizes on the individualism. And there- search believes that over emphasis on individualism tends to breed selfishness and the sense of anarchism in an individual. The family is fertile for disharmony and disinte- grations in community. The research highlights the eastern extended family over nu- clear family on the basis of tolerance the Nariman Vakeel, the Major character in the novel performs.
