dc.description.abstract | The present research subverts the orientlistic perspective on eastern extended family how the west overlooks its significances. Moreover, it exposes some mislead- ing aspects of the nuclear family that emphasizes on the individualism. And there- search believes that over emphasis on individualism tends to breed selfishness and the sense of anarchism in an individual. The family is fertile for disharmony and disinte- grations in community. The research highlights the eastern extended family over nu- clear family on the basis of tolerance the Nariman Vakeel, the Major character in the novel performs. He, in this novelFamily Matterdespite the advertisities of life: ex- treme economic problem physical suffering from Parkinson disease at the age of 79, conspiracy hatched against him by his step-children, he remains calm and patient.
