dc.description.abstractThe present study entitled 'Conversational Analysis of ClassroomInteraction'attempts to analyze the common features of classroom interaction.I used both primary and secondary sources of data. The primary datawascollected throughthe recordings of conversation between the students of GradeNine. Observation checklist and tape recorder were used as research tools toelicit the requireddata. The major finding of thestudy is that most ofclassroom interactions between students started with 'hi'/'hey' and ended withthe terms like: 'byebye'/ 'see you'.Adjacency pairs are the key features ofclassroom interaction which are found as the form question–answer and offer–acceptance sequence. Similarly , the other features like , pause and silence werefound in interaction to give floor to the others. But overlapping was mostly notfound in pair work in classroom interaction. The thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter introduces the study interms of general background, review ofthe related literatureandobjectives andsignificanceof thestudy. The second chapter deals withthemethodologyadopted for the study. Likewise, the third chapter presents analysis andinterpretation of the collected data. The fourth chapter discussesthe findingsand pedagogical implications deciphered fromthestudy.en_US
