dc.description.abstractThis research highlights the human relations that are conditioned by the strict rules of the Army Hospital. The protagonists, Manna and Lin Kong in the Ha Jin’s Waiting are under the effect of social system of the contemporary Chinese culture that is traditional. If the human desires are repressed, their self gets divided. The characters suffer the strict Chinese culture represented by the hospital wherein Manna and Doctor Kong work together. They are forced to wait for each other for receiving the opportunity of getting entangled into the marital bond that comes true after twenty years. Hence the research work is a reading of the protagonists’ psyche that is obstructed by the strict rules of the Army Hospital. Fragmentation of the Protagonists' self is the core aspect of the research which lays the stone of analyzing the characters and their interpersonal relationship that counts in the historical and political framework of the contemporary Chinese society.en_US
