Abstract
This thesis entitled"Pluralization in English and Limbu"has tried tofind out the processes of pluralization in Limbu, and compared andcontrasted those with that of English.The data were collected from theforty native speakers of the Limbu language by using snowball samplingprocedure. The processes of pluralization found in Limbu are the dualnumber suffix '-si' and the plural number suffix '-ha'. Similarly, somecardinal numbers and the plural marker are identified in Limbu. Thecomparison justifies that the process of pluralization system in Limbu ismore easierthan that of English.
This thesis consists of fourchapters.The first chapterdeals withgeneralbackground, linguistic situationof Nepal, an introduction of theLimbulanguage, script of the Limbu language, a brief introduction ofpluralization, importance of CA, importance of grammar, an overview oftranslation theory, pluralization and introduction and classification ofnouns.
The second chapter is related to the methodology applied to carry out theresearch. It deals with the source of data, sampling procedures, tools fordata collection, processesof data collection and limitationsof the study.
The third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of the data.The researcher has used descriptive style to present the Limbupluralization processes and he has compared and contrasted the Limbuand English plurlization processes with examples.
The fourth chapter deals with the finings and recommendations made inthe light of analysis and interpretation. On the basis of the findings, somerecommendations have been made for pedagogical implicationas well.
