Abstract
This research study entitled “Language Used in the Sports News” has been
carried out to describe and analyze the language in terms of sentence types,
tense, voice, aspect and the special vocabularies used in the cricket, football
and tennis news. For the study, the researcher collected thirty English
newspapers (i.e. The Kathmandu Post) from a nearby shop. Thirty news stories
for each game were studied, observed and analyzed using simple statistical
tools like percentage, frequency and checklists. The researcher found that
complex sentences, past tense, active voice and simple aspect have been used
in all the above mentioned games. Among the four major words, nouns were
found to have the highest frequency. Verbs were followed by adjectives and
adverbs were found to have the least frequency.
This thesis is divided into four main chapters and other sub-chapters. The first
