dc.description.abstractThe title of the study is to assess the role of Women in Household Decision Making Process: A Comparative Study of Brahmin, Chhetri, Newar, Magar and Gurung Women of Thasikhel", in Ward No. 5 Sub-Metropolitan, Lalitpur. The general objective of the study was to analyze the household decision making power of women in study area. The specific objectives were to analyze the socio-economic status of women in study area, to examine the role of women in resource mobilization and its utilization and to identify the constraints and opportunities in household decision making process. This research design adopted in this study is exploratory in nature. This research is slightly descriptive as well as analytical. It means that the data interpretation has been supported by presentation data analysis followed by their explanations. There are total 950 households in Thasikhel having different caste and ethnic groups. In this case study area there are about 500 households among which is universe of the study. For the study purpose, 55 households are taken as a sample which was selected on the basis of simple random sampling which stands about eleven percent of the universe of the study. Each household consists of one respondents having age group 15-60 years. For the collection of primary data, Survey, Observation and Focus Group Discussion were used as techniques and structured questionnaire and check list were used as tools. To sum up, women are socio-culturally dominated, economically deprived and psychologically traumatized. They are living just supportive role of men in any circumstances.Women in Nepal are not suffering from the lack of resources but from the lack of power to utilize available resources and lack of power to assert their rights. Females are suffering from exploitation and injustice. Toempower women, social injustice and gender disparity is socio-economical as 5 well as decision making process should be addressed and there by raise the status of female in the society. Policy and programs should be formulated and implemented properly to solve the problems related to women.en_US
