This dissertation is an attempt to prove that the American dream, which is great pride of the USA, has failed regarding the treatment of white community towards black community. Focusing the discussion on Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird, the research made an enquiry into why American dream cannot properly function though it has been taken as the life of the nation. The main objective of the study was to find out the reason behind the failure of American dream in matters of Black people. The study has concluded that American dream has been a failure because of the evil social practices like racism, segregation and discrimination against some people labeling them as lower class humans because of their complexion and their connection to certain geographical region. American dream has been used as the tool of analysis to arrive at the conclusion of the study.en_US
