dc.description.abstractThe research work entitled " Language Used in Acknowledgements” is an attempt to analyse and describe the language used in acknowledgements in terms of sentence patterns, language functions and special structures. The study also sought to find out whether the language used in acknowledgements written by Nepali writers was different from language used in acknowledgements written by foreign writers. Since, it is a library based research , the data for this study were the samples of acknowledgements, were collected from different books and research works. The total samples were eighty. Forty were selected from the acknowledgements written by Nepali writers and other forty were selected from acknowledgements written by foreign writers using judgmental sampling procedure. The required data were collected by using observation table as the data collection tool. The findings of this research showed that SU-P-PC-(A) sentence pattern and expressive language function were maximally used in the language of both kinds of acknowledgements. Similarly, the structures were found to be identical. This study consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with general background, linguistics, sociolinguistics, varieties of linguistic codes, language of acknowledgement, sentence patterns, language functions, review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology adopted for the study in which sources of data, sampling procedure, tools, process of data collection and limitations of the study are discussed. Likewise, the third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of the collected data using simple statistical tools like average and percentage with different tables and figures. The fourth chapter deals with the findings and recommendations based on the analysis and interpretation of the data. This chapter is followed by references and appendices.en_US
