Abstract
The research work entitled, "Noun Phrase Structures in English and Maithili: A
Comparative Study", compares noun phrase structures in Maithili and English
Language in terms of nominal, pronominal, gerundive, infinitival and objective heads
which consist of an obligatory head and one or more than one optional modifiers.
Each of the heads is investigated in relation to number and gender in Maithili and
English. The Maithili data were collected through oral structured interviews with the
native speakers of Maithili using the pre- determined set of questions and the selected
works from the noun phrase as the sources of data.
This thesis has four chapters: Introduction, Methodology, Analysis and Interpretation
and Findings and Recommendations.
The first chapter contains general background, review of related literature, objectives
of the study, significance of the study and definitions of the different terms.
Likewise, second chapter consists of sources of data, research tools, and process of
data collection and limitation of the study.
Similarly, third chapter includes the analysis and interpretation of the data obtained.
The last chapter deals with findings and recommendations of the thesis.
