Abstract

This thesis entitled 'Pronominals in the English and MagarLanguage: A Linguistic comparative study' endeavours to compareand contrast pronominal systems of theEnglish and Magar languages.The researcher collected data from both primary and secondary sources.The native speakers oftheMagar language are the primary sources of thedata and the different books, journals, magazines and theses are thesecondary sources of data. This research has been based on theinformants above 15 years of age. Among the informants, 30 wereeducated, other 30 were literate and the rest of 30 were illiterate. Theresearcher used the stratified random sampling procedure to sample thepopulation.The interview was used as a research tool for data collection.With the help of analysis and interpretation of the data provided by theinformants, findings were drawnwhich are:theMagarlanguagehas morenumber of pronouns in comparison to English;they are eightand they aremorecomplex than those of English.The thesis consistsof four chapters.They are introduction, methodology, analysis and interpretation andpedagogical implications. Chapter one encompasses general background,review of the related literature, objectives of the study, significance of thestudy and definition of specific terms. Chapter two deals with themethodology. It encompasses sources of data, sampling procedure,research tools, and process of data collection and limitationsof the study.Chapter three is very important with includes the analysis andinterpretation of the data. Chapter four incorporates findings,recommendations and pedagogical implications of the study.
