In order to carry out this study, I collected data from the six different campuses in Kathmandu valley. The total population of the study consisted of 120 students who were selected by using nonrandom sampling procedure. The main tool that I made use of was a-4 section listening test from Cambridge IELTS-4, past papers. The total number of test itemswas40,each test item carrying 1 mark. The scores obtained by the students were tabulated on the basis of variables specified. On the basis of the collected data, the students’ proficiency in listening comprehension was determined using simple statistical tools such as mean and percentage. The findings of the study show that the average listening proficiency of the bachelors level is49.09 per cent (i.e,5 band score level according to IELTS score), which is below the level specified in the standard test, IELTS for the academic studies in the English speaking countries. The study consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with general background of the research study, the aim of the research, review of related literature, objectives of the study, and significance of the study. Chapter two deals with methodology with entails sources of data sampling procedure, tools for data collection and limitation of the study. Chapter three entails analysis and interpretation of data by using the explanatory and descriptive approaches. The data were analyzed on the basis of variables that were specified in the objectives, i.e. faculty wise and male vs. female. The four chapters include findings and recommendations of the study where findings have been drawn with the help of analysis and interpretation and recommendations have been presented based on those findings.
