Abstract
The present research study entitled“Teaching English in Rural Area”aimed to explore challenges faced by the teachers and students with respect to teaching and learning English in a large class and as well as the best teaching practice. This study was carried out using both primary and secondary sources of data and they were collected through class observation check–list and questionnaire. The class observation check-list was used to find out challenges in association with class-room management, teaching and learning activities in large class and the best teaching practices. On the other hand, questionnaire was used to elicit experiences, perceptions and views of teachers and students from several angles. The researcher purposively selected 30 students and 10 teachers from 10 different rural secondary schools in Sindhupalchok district. The study shows that large classes in rural area have many troubles and difficulties for the teachers and students. However, the teacher put efforts for the best practice of teaching. The teacher and students’ perception,views, and experiences were found to be positive for tackling over such problems for the best practice with respect to teaching and learning in large classes.
This research consists of four chapters which are introduction,methodology, analysis and interpretation, and findings and recommendations. The first chapter contains general background, review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter mainly concerns with methodology used in the study; the sources of data, sampling procedures, tools and process of data collection and limitations of study are included under this. The third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of data. The fourth chapter consists of findings and recommendations of the study. Finally, references and appendices are mentioned in order to give validation to the research.
