Abstract
This present study entitled "Speaking Proficiency of Private and Public School Students". This thesis has been carried out to compare the speaking proficiency of eighth graders of private and public schools in Nawalparasi district. To conduct the research work, I undertook the survey method to collect the required data. Six schools were selected from Nawalparasi district. Sixty students were involved on the proficiency testing in speaking. They were tested on the basis of pronunciation, grammar and fluency. From this study I found that the students of public schools had low proficiency in speaking than the students of private schools. It is however, recommended that the concerned body should pay more attention towards speaking proficiency of the learners. The syllabus designers, testing experts, the teacher and the students themselves should be conscious enough on the speaking skill. This research work consists of four different chapters. Chapter one consists of general background, the importance of teaching speaking, testing speaking skill, speaking proficiency, review of the related literature, objectives of the study, significance of the study etc. Chapter two consists of sources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, the process of data collection, etc. The third chapter is the analysis and interpretation part of the study. In this chapter the collected raw data was analyzed both descriptively and statistically to fulfill the objectives of the study. The fourth chapter includes findings and recommendations. The findings have been outlined on the basis of the analysis and interpretations of the data and appropriate recommendations have been made.
