Language Used in the Prefaces

Abstract

The research work entitled 'Language Used in the Prefaces' is an attempt to analyze and describe the language used in the prefaces in terms of voice, sentence type, tense and aspect. It is a descriptive study. To meet the objectives of the research, thirty prefaces were collected from different books which were related to ELT (English Language Teaching) and written by non-native writers. The data of the study were collected from different books by using judgmental sampling procedure. The collected data were analyzed using table, frequency and percentage. I found that active voice, simple sentence, non-past and simple aspect were maximally used in the prefaces. This study consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with general background, review of related literature, objectives of the study, significance of the study and definition of the specific terms. The second chapter contains with the methodology adopted for the study in which sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study are discussed, likewise, the third chapter deals with analysis and interpretation of the collected data using simple statistical tools like table, frequency and percentage. The fourth chapter incorporates finding and recommendations. On the basis of the analysis and interpretation, some significant findings are listed. On the basis of the findings and on the experience of the researcher while conducting the research, some recommendations for pedagogical implications and some recommendations for further researcher are made.
