A Study on the Placement of Adverbs

Abstract

This research entitled ‘A Study on the Placement of English Adverbs’ was carried outto find out how well the students of grade ten of Rukum district use adverbs. It wasalso aimed to provide some pedagogy for teaching adverbs. Seventy five students ofthree schools were selected randomly as sample population. A set of test items wasused to collect the required data and the placement of English adverbs in differentsituations was analyzed and interpreted by using tables, diagrams and statistical tools(percentages, average). Holistic, item-wise and school-wise analyses were done sepa-rately. They had wrong concept about the form of adjectives and adverbs . This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one discusses general background of theEnglish language and different perspectives of the use of adverbs, review of the re-lated literature, objectives of the study along with the significance. Chapter two dealswith the methodology applied to carry out the research. It includes sources of data,population of the study , procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collec-tion and limitations of the study . Chapter three analyses and interprets of the datacollected from the students. Chapter four presents findings and recommendationsbased on the study. The references and appendices are given at the end.
