Abstract
Driverdistraction contributes to vehicle accident, with estimates as one half of the crashes being distraction related. This thesis investigates the percentage of accident caused by one of the component of distracted driving i.e. loud music listening and potential distraction of Driver by testing the effect of loud music listening on breaking reaction time and its component, reaction time (RT) and movement time (MT). The test was carried out in Tinkune- Suryabinayak road whereDrivers were selected randomly and data collected for three conditions (a) breaking task with no music condition (b) breaking task with mild music condition at (65-75) dB (c) breaking task with loud music condition (75-85) dB. Loud music listening slowed breaking reaction time, mild music has very little effect on breaking reaction time. While reaction time of Drivers have nominal effect of loud music but movement time have increases significantly. Drivers selected for the test have very little effect on RT but slower movement towards break paddle i.e. increase in MT resulting increase in breaking reaction time. The total number of accident caused by loud music listening was calculated by its percentage contribution in accident due to distracted driving. The total number of accident caused by distracted driving is thus calculated by its percentage contribution in total number of accidents.
