Item Effectiveness of English Practical Examination (Listening and Speaking) in the S.L.C.(Faculty of Education English, 2011) Sigdel, PashupatiThis thesis is an effort to find out the Effectiveness of English Practical Examination (Listening and Speaking) In the SLC. It has been carried out practically. Hundred students having passed the SLC 2065 and 2066 B.S. being involved in the practical exam and 20 monitors involved in the evaluation were the sample population of this work. In course of this research study fifteen public and five private (English medium) Schools were selected and the marks obtained by the students of those schools were collected and analyzed. Then two sets of questionnaires; one for the monitors and the other for the S.L.C. candidates were used and information was gathered. After analyzing and interpreting the gathered information obtained from the informants the findings are derived. The findings of this study show that the practical exam in the S.L.C. has failed to fulfill the objectives of the curriculum and it has been ineffective because of its evaluation system. The first chapter deals with general background of the study, review of related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The second chapter includes the research methodology, data collection procedures and limitation of the study. The third chapter deals with the analysis, tabulation and interpretation of data which has been done on the basis of information gathered from the informants and marks obtained by the sample population. The Chapter four includes the findings and recommendations of the study. With the help of analysis and interpretation, some findings have been drawn and some recommendations based on those findings have been presented. The final part of the thesis entails bibliography and appendices.Item Effectiveness of Para-Orthographic Texts used in English Text Book for Grade Ten(Faculty of Education English, 2011) Bhattarai (Rayamajhi), Chanda DeviThe research work entitled "Effectiveness of Para-orthographic Texts Used in English Text Book for Grade Ten" is carried out to find out the effectiveness of different Para-orthographic texts that are put within grade ten English text book with comparison to orthographic texts of that textbook and to provide some recommendation for pedagogic purpose. For this study, 2 sets of test items were prepared i.e. set 'A' for orthographic texts and set 'B' for para-orthographic texts to collect the required information by administering test. The overall findings of the study show that the Para-orthographic texts which are used within grade ten English text books are comparatively more effective and useful than the orthographic texts of that same text book. The study has been presented in four chapters. The first chapter consists of general background, review of related literature, objectives of the study and limitation of the study. The second chapter describes the methodology applied to carry out the study which includes primary sources of data, secondary sources of data, tools used for the collection of data, procedures for data collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter consists of analysis and interpretation of data and recommendations are presented in the fourth chapter. In the final section of the study, the references and appendices are included.Item English Code Mixing by Women Political Leaders and Social Workers(Faculty of English Education, 2013) Baral, DamodarThe present study entitled 'English Code Mixing by Women Political Leaders and Social Workers' is an attempt to identify, and analyze the different English code mixing in terms of major word classes, frequency of occurrence of words, contexts in which code mixing takes place and to find out the reasons for code mixing. The study is mainly based on the primary sources of data. The primary sources of data for this study were 20 speakers and 30 listeners of public speeches in Itahari. The researcher used judgmental or purposive non random sampling procedure for the collection of the data. The finding of the research work shows that there is maximum amount of English code mixing in Nepali speeches. It was also found that social workers mixed higher amount of English words compared to the political workers. The study consists of four chapters along with references and appendixes in the end. Chapter one introduces the study in terms of general background, review of related literature, objectives of the study, significant of the study and definitions of specific terms. Chapter two deals with the methodology for study including sources of data, population of the study, tools for data collection and process of data collection. Chapter three includes the analysis and interpretation of data using simple statistical tools such as frequency and percentage. Chapter four consists of findings and recommendations of the research study. On the basis of the analyzed data, findings have been prepared and in turn, on the basis of these findings, some recommendations have been made.Item Honorificity in Tharu and English(Faculty of Education English, 2011) Chaudhary, SajanThe thesis entitled "Honorificity in Tharu and English" makes a comparison of the honorificity used in Tharu and English languages. It explores how the native speaker of the two languages make choice of the honorificity, the words used to honor somebody in speech keeping in mind various factors like age, sex relation, social status, culture etc related to speaker and listener. It compares the forms of honorificity for proper noun, pronouns, verbs, addressive forms and titles and other persons in Tharu community. The data was collected from seventy five native speakers of Tharu in Sunsari using random sampling procedure. The sources of data for the forms of hanorificity in English were based on the previous research carried out in the department of English Education .The researcher found out that Tharu language is richer in the honorificity to English as it contains the forms that are not found in English like, 'rai', 'gau', 'hau', 'yau', 'ji','tai','tait','yaichha', ..........etc. The system of honoring people in two languages differs in most of the cases. Usually, kinship terms have addressee use in Tharu but first names are more prominent in English. This thesis contains four chapters i.e. Introduction, Methodology, Analysis and Interpretation and Findings and Recommendations. The first chapter contains general background, review of the related literature, objectives of the study, significance of the study and definition of specific terms. The second chapter includes sources of data population of the study sample population, tools for data collection process of data collection and limitations of the study. Similarly, the third chapter contains analysis and interpretation of data obtained. Finally, the fourth chapter incorporates findings, recommendations and pedagogical implications of the study. References, appendices and questionnaire appear at the end part of the research.Item Proficiency of Bachelor Level Students in using Punctuations(Faculty of Education English, 2011) Dulal, Ganesh PrasadThe present thesis entitled “Proficiency of Bachelor Level Students in Using Punctuations” aims at finding out the Proficiency of Bachelor Level Students in the use of punctuation marks. For this purpose, the researcher selected Mahendra Morang Adarsh Multiple Campus and Gograha College of Biratnagar, Morang district, using random sampling procedure. The total sample population consisted of 80 students from the faculty of Education (B.Ed 1st Year), faculty of Humanities (B.A 1st year), faculty of Management (B.B.S 1st year) and faculty of Science (B.Sc 1st year). This research work was based on written data only. Test items were used as the tools for the data collection. On the basis of the collected data, the students’ Proficiency on Punctuations was determined. The data was analyzed an interpreted descriptively using simple statistical tools such as tables, simple bar graph, rank and percentage. The main finding of this study shows that Proficiency of Bachelor Level Students in Using Punctuations was satisfactory. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter presents a short description of punctuations including its use and significance, review of literature and objectives under different headings and sub headings. The second chapter includes the methodology adopted to carry out the research work. Similarly, it includes the sources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure, tools and process of data collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter consists of the analysis and interpretation of data. At the end, the fourth chapter consists of the findings and recommendations with pedagogical implications.Item Tense Marking System in Maithili and English(Faculty of Education English, 2011) Yadav, Umesh PrasadThis thesis entitled "Tense Marking System in Maithili and English" endeavors to compare and contrast tense marking system of Maithili and English languages. The researcher collected data from both primary and secondary sources. The primary sources of data were native speakers of Maithili language from Inaruwa Municipality of Sunsari district located in the southern part of Nepal. For the primary sources of data 50 native speakers of Maithili Language of Inaruwa Municipality were selected by using simple random sampling procedure. The sample of population was literate people who have passed SLC and above. The secondary sources of data were different books, theses, journals, Gorkha patra and Maithili Grammar. The thesis consists of four chapters. They are introduction, methodology, analysis and interpretation, findings and recommendation. Chapter one consists of general background, review of related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. Chapter two deals with methodology, sources of data, sampling procedure and limitations of study. Similarly, Chapter three which is the core of the thesis includes analysis and interpretation of the data. In this way, the fourth chapter includes the production of analysis and interpretation of the data, i.e. findings of the study and some recommendations made on the basis of the findings. Finally the references and the appendices which are necessary for the validation of the research are also presented.
