Item An Analysis of Paragon English Reader Book-6(Department of English Education, 2019) Prasai, MedaniThe research entitled ‘An Analysis of Paragon English Reader Book 6’ is carried out to find out the strengths and weaknesses of English reader book of grade six of private schools. The objectives of the study were to analyze the textbook in terms of physical, academic and communicative aspects and provide some pedagogical implications. In order to achieve the objectives, primary data was collected and self observation method was used. The data was collected from 20 different ELT teachers teaching the textbook in different private schools of Shivasatakshi Municipality. Then, the data was analyzed. The major findings of the study showed that the overall physical aspects are excellent. Similarly, the textbook is communicative due to its emphasis on language functions and language skills i.e. listening, speaking, reading and writing. Likewise, the contents include in the book are appropriate to foster the creativity and interactive ability in the learners. The book too had the negative sides like it lacked the representation of Nepalese culture and geography and neglected the advocacy for human rights. This thesis has been divided into five chapters. The first chapter is introduction that includes general background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance and delimitations of the study. The second chapter is related to the review of related literature and conceptual framework that includes theoretical and empirical literature review and conceptual framework of the study. The third chapter is about the methodology that contains design and method of the study, population sample and sampling strategy, study area, data collection tools and techniques, procedures, data analysis and interpretation procedures. The fourth chapter deals with analysis and interpretation of results and the fifth chapter is related to conclusions and recommendation. The recommendation is for policy related level, practice related level and further research related level.Item Classroom Management Strategies and Practices in Secondary Level English Classes(Department of English Education, 2019) Bhujel, GyanuAvailable with full textItem Effectiveness of Games in Teaching Vocabulaies in Grade Five(Department of English Education, 2019) Basnet, SrijanaThis research report entitled ‘Effectiveness of Games in Teaching Vocabulary in Grade Five’ is an attempt to find out the effectiveness of games to teach vocabulary. This study is an experimental type in nature. The researcher selected Nawayug Shikshya Niketan Secondary School, Kanakai1, Durgapur, Jhapa, Nepal through purposive sampling method and 20 students from grade five were taken as sample population. Test items were the main tool for data collection. A pre-test was administered to determine the existing proficiency level of the students. Then, they were divided into two groups; experimental and controlled groups on the basis of marks obtained from the pre-test. The performance scores of the students of both tests were compared and analyzed. I took 28 classes using language games and administered post- test in order to find out the progress of the students from the pre-test and difference between two groups in post-test. The difference was detected from the comparison of the results of two tests. It has been found that students under experimental group have performed better in post-test than controlled group. It means the use of language games in teaching vocabulary produced better results than the use of lecture method. This study consists of five chapters. Chapter one consists of background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions key terms. Chapter two consists of review of related theoretical literature, review of empirical literature, implications of the study and conceptual framework. Chapter three includes methods and procedures adapted during the study which incorporates design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data (primary and secondary), data collection procedures, data analysis procedures and ethical considerations. Similarly, in chapter four analysis of data and interpretations have been presented. Chapter five contains findings, conclusion and recommendations. References and appendices are also included at the end of this work to make it more valid.Item Reading Comprehension Proficiency of Secondary Level Students in English(Department of English Education, 2020) Bhattarai, Rishi RamThis research study entitled "Reading Comprehension Proficiency of Secondary Level Students in English" has been carried out to find out the proficiency of secondary level students in English and compare their proficiency in terms of informant-oriented variables: male students vs. female students and seen text vs. unseen text. The major tools for data collection were the test items, containing subjective (short answer question) and objective test items (completion, ordering, true / false and matching) for the students of eastern part of Tehrathum district, Aatharai Rural Municipality. For this target goal the researcher selected the secondary level students to collect the data as the sample population fifty students from three different secondary level community schools. The collected data were tabulated based on the test items and test type and analyzed in terms of mean (average) and differences in percentage. Their same answer was also analyzed quantitatively. The result based on the gender, mean score of female students are bit better than male students and on the text type, students' performance is better in seen text than unseen text. This thesis has been divided into five chapters. Chapter one is an introducing chapter. Then chapter five consists of major findings recommendations followed by reference and appendicesItem Teachers’ Perceptions Towards Grade Eight English Textbook(Faculty of English Education, 2020) Bimali, NishaThis research work entitled Teachers’ Perceptions Towards Grade Eight English Textbook is to analyze the textbook 'English Grade 8' in terms of physical aspect (layout and design, paper quality, letter spacing, pricing, printing and binding, pictures and availability) and academic aspect (content, language, exercises, language skills and grammatical items) used based on the teachers’ perspectives in different community and institutional schools of Kanakai Municipality of Jhapa district. The objective of this research is to explore the teachers’ perception towards English textbook of grade eight in terms of physical aspects and academic aspects and provide some pedagogical implications.The data was analyzed descriptively. The respondents for the study contained 20 English teachers who taught in grade eight. The result showed that the teachers perceived the English textbook used in grade eight is able to accomplish the learning targets. The exercises included in the textbook are supposed to provide sufficient practice to the students for developing all four language skills of language so that the outcomes of the curriculum can be achieved easily. The fourth chapter deals with analysis and interpretation of results and the fifth chapter is related to conclusion and recommendations such as policy related, practice related and further research related followed references and appendices of the study. viItem Using Mobile Phones in Learning English Language(Department of English Education, 2019) Kandangwa, YunchhokThis research work entitled Using Mobile Phones in English Language Learning has been carried out to find out the extent to which the students of secondary school (class 10) use mobile phones in English language learning and to ascertain students' attitude towards the use of mobile phone as language learning tool. It is a cross sectional survey research which is akin to both qualitative and quantitative research. The population of this study consists of secondary school students of two different schools. It employs both primary and secondary sources of data to reach into conclusion. The study examines the students' attitude toward the use of mobile phone in English language learning. The findings obtained from the data collection tools show that the student had positive attitude toward the use of mobile phone. The result of the study confirmed that mobile phone has positive impact on the students' language learning achievement. Thus, this study concluded that there must not be total ban on the use of mobile phones for students since mobiles provide students with an interesting, innovative, and engaging English language learning. The thesis consists of five chapters. Chapter I includes general background, statement of problem, objective of the study , hypothesis of the study, significance of the study , and operational definition of key terms. Chapter II deals with review of related theoretical and empirical literature. Chapter III consists the methods and procedures of the study where the design of the study, population and sample, sampling procedure, data collection tool, data collection procedure and data analysis and interpretation procedures have been mentioned. Chapter IV talks about analysis of data and interpretation of the result and summary of findings. Chapter V presents conclusion and recommendation. Finally last part of the thesis is followed by references and appendixes.
