Item Code Mixing In ‘Lekhakki Swasni'(Faculty of Education Tribhuvan University Janta Multiple Campus, Itahari, Sunsari, Nepal, 2015) Yadav, ShivdharThis research study entitled, “English Code-Mixing in Lekhakki Swasni”, is a study of English code-mixing in the Nepali novel “Lekhakki Swasni"written by Pragati Rai. Its aim centralizes to the analyses in to the use of English code in the novel "Lekhakki Swasni". It aims to find out and analyze English code-mixingin terms of major word classes, frequency of occurrence of the word and context in which code-mixing takes place and find out the attitude of literary writers and readers towards English codemixing in the Nepali novel. The Primary sources of the data of this study were 20 literary writers and 20 literary readers from Sunsari Multiple Campus Sunsari and Gograha College, Biratnagar, Morang. The researcher used judgemental/purposive sampling procedure for the collection of data. The finding of this work shows that there is a large amount of English code-mixing in the novel, „Lekhakki Swasni‟. Nouns were maximally used followed by adjectives, verbs and adverbs respectively. Regarding the context of code-mixing, the writer was seen to have mixed English words on such context as: talking about Education, profession and post, science and technology, hotel and food, modern equipment, dress, film, vehicles, etc. The study has been divided into five chapters. The first chapter deals with introduction which in turn, consists of general background, statement of the problem, rationale of the study, objectives of the research, research questions, significance of the study and delimitation of the study. The second chapter deals with review of the Related literature and conceptual framework, implication of the reviewed literature and theoretical framework. The third chapter includes methods and procedure of the study which in turn, consists design of the study, sources of data,population of the study, sampling procedure and sample size, tools for data collection, process of data 9 collection, data analysis and interpretation procedure, result and discussion and summary, conclusion and Implication. The fourth chapter deals with analysis and interpretation which in turn, consists of result,frequency wise analysis of the English expression,context wise analysis of code-mixing,analysis of literary writers attitude towards English code-mixing in the Nepali novel,and analysis of literary reader‟s perception towards the English code in Nepali novel.The fifth chapter deals with finding and recommendations which in turn consists of finding of the study and pedagogicalimplication and recommendations.Item English Code Mixing in Maithili FM Programs(Department of English Education, 2010) Sah, Bishwa NathThis thesis entitled "Code Mixing in Maithili FMs : A Descriptive Study" is basically descriptive and partly explanatory. The objectives of the study were to find out English Code-mixing in the Maithili language based programmes in Janki FM and Mithila FM radio programmes in Nepal, its nature and to find out the attitude of the audiences related to the FM radio programmes as for English Code-mixing. The sample population consists of only the three programmes of equal nature based on telephone conversation from each of the selected FM radio programmes and forty (40) regular listeners of the readio programmes covering the different cross-sections of social life: Language diversity (Maithili vs Nepali), Sex diversity (male Vs female) and age diversity (young Vs old). The tools for the data collection were audio cassette recording, oral interview along with questionnaire. After collecting data the analysis and interpretation have been prepared in the three dimensions: Structural, Functional and Attitudinal in general. As for structural aspect, expressions of word level have the highest frequency and sentence level have the least frequency in mixing in the study. Similarly, expressions related to various language functions appear in mixing. For socializing purpose speakers tend to mix English codes mostly. Likewise, they also do so, for other functions. The audiences of the FM radio listeners had given their views as for English code mixing and the views were in the mixed form. The cross life styles of the audiences cause discrimination in their thoughts. A large number of Maithili mother tongue audiences think English code mixing in the Maithili language was not good. They said English mixed affected the originality of the Maithili language adversely. On the other hand, Nepali audiences were less critical about the English mixing in the FM radio media. Finally, as for the impact of English mixing in the Maithili language concerned; the audiences agreed that it had negative impact in the society. Thiss thesis contains altogether four chapters. Chapter one deals with the introduction with of general background, code switching and code mixing, types of code switching, difference between code switching and code mixing, factor leading to code switching and code mixing, mass media in Nepal, review of related literature, objectives of the study, significance of the study, definition of specific terms ix and fundamental of language structures and language function. Chapter two deals with methodology. It encompasses source of data, population of the study, sample population, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. Chapter three consists of analysis and interpretation of the required data. It consists of four parts. Part one deals with the finding and classification of mixed English expressions, part two deals with the frequency analysis of the mixed expressions, the third part deals with the underlying system and conditioning factors in the code mixing and the last part deals with the attitude analysis of the audiences. The data are analyzed on the basis of percentage and they are presented on the table. Chapter four presents the summary of findings and recommendation.Item English Code Mixing in Nepali Novel "Phirphire"(Department of English Education, 2017) Chaudhary, Hari LalThe research entitled, ''English Code Mixing in Nepali novel Phirphire'', is a study of English code-mixing in the Nepali novel "Phirphire" written by Buddhisagar. It centralizes to the analyses in to the use of English code in the novel "Phirphire".It aims to find out and analyze English code-mixing in terms of major word classes, frequency of occurrence of the word and context in which code-mixing takes place and find out the attitude of literary writers' and readers' towards English code-mixing in the Nepali novel. The primary source of the data of this study were 20 literary writers and readers from Sunsari district. The researcher used purposive sampling procedure for the collection of the data. The fifth chapter deals with summary, conclusion, and implication.Item English code mixing in Nepali novel 'Karnali Blues'(Department of English Education, 2016) Prasai, Dibya JyotiThis research study entitled English Code Mixing In Nepali Novel ‘Karnali Blues’ is an effort to find out, analyze, and interpret the elicited English codes mixed in the Nepali novel 'Karnali Blues' written by Buddhisagar. For this study, the researcher had collected all the English expressions mixed in the novel and the assembled data were categorized grammatically, i.e. words, phrases, sentences and abbreviations. The researcher used judgmental purposive sampling procedure for the collection of data. All the English expressions mixed in the novel were categorized and analyzed in terms of word classes, phrases, sentences and abbreviations with their various frequencies of occurrence and the context in which Code-Mixings took place. As the primary sources of data for the study, 20 literary writers and the equal number of literary readers from Sunsari and Morang districts of Nepal were randomly selected. Then their statements and opinions were collected and analyzed. The findings of this research work show that a large number of English codes like nouns, adjectives, adverbs, abbreviations and sentences were mixed in the novel with their different frequencies. Nouns were maximally used followed by adjectives, verbs and adverbs. Regarding the context of Code-Mixing, the writer found mixing the English codes in various situations for e.g. while describing about hospital activities, school activities, putting on dresses, depicting the rural scene and many more.The study has been divided into five chapters. The first chapter deals with introductionwhich has incorporated general background, statement of problem, rationale of the study, objectives of the research, research questions, significance of the study, and delimitation of the study. The final chapter deals with conclusions and recommendations which includes conclusions, pedagogical implications and recommendations.Item English Code-Mixing in Tharu Cinemas(Department of English Education, 2017) Chaudhary, GunjaThis research entitled ‘English code mixing in Tharu Cinemas’ is a study of English code mixing in the 12 sampled Tharu cinemas. The main objectives of this study are to find out and analysis English code-mixing in terms of word classes (Noun, Verb, Adjective, Adverb), find out contexts in which code-mixing take place, frequency of occurrence of English word and find out the attitude of literate Tharu speakers towards English code-mixing in the Tharu cinemas. The primary sources of the data of this study were 30 literate Tharu speakers from Sunsari and Morang districts. The researcherused judgmental purposive sampling procedure for the collection of data. The finding of the study shows that there is a large amount of English code-mixing in the ‘Tharu cinemas.’ Nouns were maximally mixed followed by verbs, adjectives and adverbs. Regarding the context of code-mixing the interlocutors were seen to have mixed English words on such context as: talking about education, health, science, and technology, modern equipment, dress, modern life style, fashion, film, profession and post etc. The study consists of five chapters. Chapter one deals with introduction, general background, an introduction to language, an introduction to the Tharu and Tharu language, origins of Tharu, code-mixing, reasons of code-mixing, history of Tharu cinemas, statementof problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study and delimitations of the study. Chapter two deal with literature review and theoretical framework. It incorporates review of related literature, theoretical framework and conceptual framework. Chapter three includes the methodology for study including design of the study, Sources of data, sampling procedure, population of the study, research tools and process of data collection.Chapter four deals the analysis, interpretation and presentation of data using such simple statistical tools such as frequency and percentage. Chapter five consists of findings and recommendation of the research study.Item English Codes Used by Farmers(Department of English Education, 2018) Neupane, ShishirThis study entitled "English Codes Used by Farmers "is an attempt to find out the Mixed English words in the Nepali language and to find out the context of mixed English words in the Nepali language. In order to achieve the objective of the study the researcher used both primary data and secondary data. In this study thirty farmers of the Nepali language were selected from Nawalparasi district. In sample population there were illiterate and literate farmers. The researcher used non random sampling procedure to elicit required data. The main tool for data collection was semi structured interview schedule. The researcher found mixed English terms in greater numbers, e.g. English, math, tractor, mobile, computer, school, boarding, etc. The major findings of this study were Code mixing is the most frequent at the word level in comparison to other linguistic units (Phrase, clause and sentence) and lots of English words used in daily life/ family related, agriculture related, community meeting related and schooling their children questions related but more English terms were found in schooling their children and daily life/family related question respectively. This study consists of five chapters. The first chapter encompasses introduction of the study. It incorporates the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definition of the key terms. Similarly, chapter two deals with the review of related theoretical literature, review of related empirical literature, implications of the review for the study and conceptual framework. The third chapter presents the design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, data collection procedures, and data analysis and interpretation procedures. Similarly, chapter four consists of the analysis and interpretation of the results and fifth chapter deals with the findings, conclusion and recommendations. The concluding chapter is followed by the references and appendixes that were used in the thesis.Item A Study on students’ communication Strategies in The Classroom(Department of English Education, 2011) Ghimire, LaxmiThe present study entitled‘A Study onStudents’Communication Strategiesin theClassroom’isan attempt toanalyze thecommunication strategies used by the highersecondary level students.This study was carried out using both the primary andsecondary sources of data. For primary data,fiftystudents were randomly selected fromtwo higher secondary schools ofArghakhanchidistrict namely; ShreeNepal Rastriya andShree Harihar Higher SecondarySchools which were selectedusingpurposive/judgmentalnon-random sampling procedure. I used both close and open-endedquestionnaire to elicit the requireddatafor the study. It was found thatthe students usedtwelve different communication strategiesi.e. synonym, antonym, definition, guessing,asking, exemplification,gesture, avoidance, translation, explanationandcode switchingwhile talking with the teacher in the classroom. It shows thatalmost all of the students(80 percent)wouldthink thatcommunicationstrategieswere extremely usefulin theirlearning.Specifically,askingand gesturewerethe most frequent communication strategyused by the students. Thisthesis consists four chapters along with references and appendices at the end. Thefirst chapter deals with the introduction part which mainly includes general background,learning strategy, communication strategy, importance of communication strategies,thereview of related literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapterdeals with the methodology used in the study. The sources of data, sample and samplingprocedures, tools for data collection, data collection procedures and limitations of thestudy are included in this chapter. Chapterthree is the main part of the study whichincludes analysis and interpretation of the data. The final chapter encompasses with thefindings and recommendations made after the analysis of the data.
