Item Determinants of Job Satisfaction and their Impact on Employee Commitment: A Study of Foreign Joint Venture Banks in Nepal(Faculty of Management, 2021) Bajracharya, AnishmaThe study has been carried out to identify determinants of job satisfaction and their impact on employee commitment in foreign joint venture commercial banks in Nepal with the aim to examine the status of determinants of job satisfaction of employees and to assess the employee commitment in foreign joint venture banks in Nepal. This research is basically exploratory in nature which was undertaken by following descriptive and survey research design. Questionnaires were administered to the employees in both foreign joint venture banks and the respondents were asked to give their opinion about their job and the prevailing situation of HR practices in the organization. Before the computation of descriptive results, internal consistencies of the construct variables were tested by using Cronbach‟s Alpha. Alpha values of all the constructs were found to be higher than 0.7, which is the evidence for the sufficient consistency. The aim of this research was to primarily determine the determinants of job satisfaction and their impact on employee commitment among the employees of banking sector. The results emanating from the research indicate there is a statistically significant relationship between determinants of job satisfaction and employee commitment among the sample of employees selected to participate in the research. The results from the current research indicate that there is a strong, positive correlation between employee commitment and job satisfaction among the employees from banking sector. The levels of job satisfaction and employee commitment are, however, a cause for concern. Given the close link between employee commitment and job satisfaction, it is possible that many employees are possibly staying in the profession due to limited alternatives. Most of the employees were dissatisfied from freedom and authority in both organizations. So, they must include them in decision making as well as use liberal policy for higher job satisfaction. Similarly, they were also dissatisfied in job security, supervision and interpersonal relation in organization. The study analyzes two rewards, i.e. intrinsic and extrinsic among banking employees that affects on their job satisfaction. Besides that, this study also aims to make the comparative study between Investment Bank and Himalayan Bank. The study comprises descriptive, causal design and convenience sampling method. Closed-ended structured questionnaire with 43 statements in 5 point likert scale was used for the study. Questionnaire used were validated through cronbach’s alpha and ttest. Sample population was employees working in middle and lower level; primary data has been collected by visiting different branches of two banks as well as through internet survey. The data collected from the survey has been analyzed using descriptive statistics as well as inferential statistics (mean, standard deviation, correlation and regression). Two types of rewards, i.e., intrinsic and extrinsic have positive correlation with employee job satisfaction. Similarly, rewards enhance job satisfaction of employees. Besides that there is significant relationship between intrinsic rewards and job satisfaction in case of Investment Bank. There is no significant relationship between extrinsic rewards and job satisfaction. Likewise, in case of Himalayan Bank both the rewards, extrinsic and intrinsic have significant relationship with job satisfaction. In addition with that, study also concluded that intrinsic rewards influenced employees’ job satisfaction than that of extrinsic rewards. Extrinsic rewards importance differs due to organizational payment policies but intrinsic rewards are important on every working environment. The study could contribute to future research works conducted on rewards and job satisfaction. Understanding of rewards and job satisfaction can make strategic plan to retain competent employees. The study is helpful for organization to attract, retain and motivate efficient employees through taking into account these variables as important. The prime aim of this study is to find out the teachers perception on ‘Job Satisfaction’ and to identify the factors which affect job satisfaction. Out of 33 wards in Pokhara Metropolitan city, four wards were selected purposively for this study. There are seven Public Schools in these study area where total numbers of female teachers are 113. In any context education has played a vital role for overall development of the society in the history of mankind. It is duly said that history of mankind is just the history of education. The study has focused on the perception of female teachers regarding job satisfaction. It has been found that job satisfaction according to female teachers isn’t restricted to only salary rather there are other factors as well which they considers the influencing factors. The research shows friendly and supportive colleagues, interesting job, good employee- employer relationship, flexible and safe working place as the most important factors for job satisfaction. Almost all of them wanted some support from their family members for the betterment in their professional lives. Even they desired some sharing in their work with their family members. They do like multiple roles because it proves their capability. But they found it much more when they are not able to manage their roles and responsible in hard times. If female teachers has Gender Responsive working Environment there exists democratic norms in performing school activities teachers would enjoy more freedom of work and turn, her job satisfaction would be better in the present study. Directly or indirectly every respondents accepts that they are stuffed with more work load and responsibilities. Problem faced by women is stress caused by role conflict or multiple roles. There is close relationship between their incomes and expenditure. Their volume of expenditure generally shows their living standard and either they are enjoying the qualitative lives or not. Most of the female teachers are not given the proper opportunities. Also they are facing the problem of underestimation towards them.Item Job Satisfaction among Female Teachers of Public Schools (A Sociological Study based on Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan City)(Faculty of Sociology, 2018) Adhikari, Santosi“The job satisfaction Among the Primary Level Female Teachers of Public Schools” is a study on different dimensions of teaching women. The prime aim of this study is to find out the teachers’ perception on ‘Job Satisfaction’ and to identify the factors which affect job satisfaction. Out of 33 wards in Pokhara Lekhnath Metropolitan city six wards of eastern parts were selected purposively for this study.There are 49 public schools in this study area where total numbers of primary level female teachers are 118.Out of them 80 female teachers were surveyed and analyzed questionnaire was used and in depth interviews were conducted to collect primary data. Almost all of them wanted some support from their family members for the betterment in their professional lives. Even they desired some sharing in their work with their family members. They do like multiple roles because it proves their capability. But they found it much more challenging when they are not able to manage their roles in hard times. The school environment attributes: positive teacher relationships and support from school management were positively associated with teacher job satisfaction, whereas stress and the factor that female teachers often experienced gender bias, stereotyping, underestimation and discrimination in the workplace.So it blocks women empowerment. If female teacher has Gender Responsive working Environment there exists democratic norms in performing school activities teachers would enjoy more freedom of work, and turn, her job satisfaction would be better in the present study. The empirical study has found some factors which affect job satisfaction of female teachers. The Dependent variables are salary, academic qualification, reward, training, supervision, long holidays (Sick leave, annual leave, maternity leave, casual leave etc.), insurance, medical allowance, short working hours, working environment, motivation and culture etc. These factors affected the teachers depending on the different type of schools. Directly or indirectly every respondents accepts that they are stuffed with more work loads and responsibilities. Problem faced by women is stress caused by role conflict or multiple roles. A coping resource that has been found to reduce stress is social support. There is close relationship between their income and expenditure. Their volume of expenditure generally shows their living standard and either they are enjoying the qualitative lives or not. The participation in decision making is found better because majority of them said that they participate in decision making at school. Most of the female teachers are not given the proper opportunities. Also they are facing the problem of underestimation towards them. The living standard and their participation are found to be better. Their functional participation in decision making on family matters also shows that there is good influence of professionalism on them. The overall objective of this study was to find out the state of women labourers in Machhapuchchhre Brick Factory, TANAHUN. A descriptive research design was used in the study. The data were collected from the total women labourers (66) who were working in Machhapuchchhre Brick Factory, TANAHUN. The data were collected through the direct personal interview with interview schedule, observation and case study. The collected data were coded, recoded, scrutinized and entered into the computer using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software and the qualitative data were manually processed. The data have been presented and analyzed with the help of descriptive and inferential statistical tools. It was found that the female worker were from different socio-cultural background. Majority of the females were working to support their families. Married working women revealed that they had to work because the occupations of their husbands were less prestigious and semi-skilled. So they had to work for the education of their children and to support the family. The family size and types show that they were aware and willing to make small and happy family. However their status of job satisfaction was not satisfactory. It was because they faced the problems of being inferiority, overloaded, exploited, and discriminated while working in the brick factory. They faced the problem of untimely pay of the salary, interruption of owner in the work and unequal wages. Most of the working women in Machhapuchchhre Brick Factory were educated, though the level of education was low. It indicates that the trend has changed and educated women want to work outside to share the economic burden of the family. Taking into account all the facts it can be concluded that the attitude of the people towards working women was changing. The males wanted that the females get education and do jobs outside the home. Thus a good employment opportunity has been provided by the factory. However, there is a need to provide proper education and vocational skills to engage them in productive employment. This will help to reduce poverty and improve family status.Item Job Satisfaction in English Language Teaching: Experiences of Female Teachers(Department of English Education, 2022) Gurung, SuchitraThis research entitled Job Satisfaction in English Language Teaching: Experiences of Female Teachers is an attempt to explore and analyze job satisfaction of female teachers in teaching English. I used narrative research design to meet the objective of the study. The sample of the study included four female teachers of (lower secondary) level from Gorkha district. I used purposive non-random sampling procedure. I collected data through in-depth interview. The study was entirely based on primary sources of data. Data was analyzed qualitatively with the help of thematic analysis procedure. The findings of the study showed that ongoing teachers are personally motivated so they are satisfied with their job but drop out teacher are personally less motivated so they are dissatisfied with their job. Furthermore, findings of this research suggest that not only female English teachers but also other concern authority and guardian should have positive thoughts towards the female teacher job satisfaction. Similarly, the female teachers are dissatisfied with their profession. So, the government should bring new prospect and the program for female teachers. This thesis consists of five chapters. Each chapter is divided into different heading and subheading .The first chapter deals with the introduction of the topic in which background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, and significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definition of the key terms. The second chapter consist review of all the related theoretical and empirical literature, their implications on the study and conceptual framework of the whole study. The chapter three consists of the methodological procedure, data analysis and interpretation procedures and ethical considerations. Then fifth chapter deals with findings, conclusions and recommendations of the study. However, in order to make women employee productive, first of all, their training and development, participation in decision making process, access to information as well as reward system and intrinsic and extrinsic job satisfaction should be understood, relationships among these aspects should be examined and then necessary interventions should be taken. Against this backdrop, this study, first, aims to identify the status of women employee empowerment, intrinsic job satisfaction and extrinsic job satisfaction and then examine the relationships among women employee empowerment, intrinsic job satisfaction and extrinsic job satisfaction in the context of Nepalese Commercial banks. This study uses questionnaire survey method by taking a sample of 250 women employee comprising five banks in Nepalese Commercial banks in Kathmandu valley. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, standard multiple regression analysis and one-way ANOVA have been used to analyze the collected data. Results show that there is a significant positive relationship between women employee empowerment and intrinsic job satisfaction as well as extrinsic job satisfaction. The findings of this study imply that the respondents have provided consistent data on the relationship between women employee empowerment and job satisfaction because it is comparatively important to them and is relevant in the Nepalese Commercial banks. Thus, the status of women employee empowerment, from the perspectives of the women employees is satisfactory in the case of Nepalese Commercial banks. Finally, the study has implications on to empower the women employee and enhancing the capacity and skills of the women employees working in the Nepalese Commercial banks for promoting their knowledge, attitude, and performances.
