Item Classroom management by female English language teachers: A narrative inquiry(Department of English Education, 2019) Khadka, Bishnu MayaThis thesis entitled “Classroom Management by Female English Language Teachers”: A Narrative Inquiry was carried out to explore the factors which affect female English language teachers of Basic level to manage the classroom. To fulfill the set objectives of the study, both primary and secondary sources of data were used. The research was conducted by adopting the research tools; diary writing of class observation and semi- structured interview. The study shows that all affecting factors: social, physical and academic are prime factors for managing the effective classroom management by female English language teachers of basic level. It was found that to meet the teaching learning objectives classroom management is an essential part for creating fruitful and effective environment for teachers and students. Similarly, it was found that to overcome the affecting factors of classroom management, female English language teachers adopted various types of teaching techniques according to the need and interest of the learners as well as the content and context. The present study consists of five main chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction of the study along with background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. The second chapter contains the review of related literature and conceptual framework of the study. Similarly, the third chapter includes methods and procedures of the study, design of the study, population and sample, sampling strategies, data collection tools, data collection procedures, data analysis and interpretation procedures and ethical considerations. Likewise, the fourth chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of the collected data descriptively. Finally, chapter five comprises the findings, conclusion and recommendations in policy related and further researches. At the end, the references and appendices are have been included.Item Classroom performance of low achievers in English language classroom(Department of English Education, 2023) Rai, SaluThe research ‘Classroom Performance of Low Achievers in English Language Classroom’ was carried out to explore the classroom performance of low achievers in English language classroom and to find out the possible reasons behind their low achievement. This study was based on narrative inquiry research design. In order to meet the objective of the study, four students of grade 11 studying at a public school were selected as samples using purposive non random sampling strategy. In depth interview was used as the tool to collect data. For that, some guideline questions were prepared. The respondents’ experiences were taken as the primary data. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis approach. Moreover, the low achievers’ grade sheets of previous class were also collected and analyzed descriptively. From the analysis and interpretation of data, it was found out that the low achievers who failed to meet the target and who performed passively in classroom had to go through a number of challenges. Their classroom performance is found to passive and less involvingin the classroom activities. They lack the ability to engage themselves in classroom interactions like pair or group work, group discussion, presentation etc. From the responses of the participants it can be said that they lack concentration and attention power to involve themselves in learning. Furthermore, their achievement is affected due to factors like lack of parents’ support, lack of adequate learning materials and lack of motivation. They are left behind because of their fear of making mistakes. Fear of making mistakes has decreased their self confidence. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction of the study that includes background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study and operational key terms. Similarly, the second chapter contains the review of related literature, implication of the reviewed literature and the conceptual framework. At the end, references and appendixes are attached.Item Learner-centered techniques used in the English language classrooms(Department of English Education, 2019) Paudel, UshaThe present study entitled Learner-Centered Techniques Used in The English Language Classrooms aimed at findings out to examine the practice of learner-centered techniques in their classroom and what different learner-centered techniques have used in English classes by the teachers. For this study, five English language teachers were selected from Kathmandu district and six classes of each teacher (i.e. 30 classes) were observed. The sample of this study was selected through purposive non random sampling procedure. Interview and classroom observation were used as the main tools for data collection. The data collected from the field was analyzed qualitatively. The major finding of this study included that all the teachers had clear and positive perceptions on the use of Learner-Centered Techniques in the Secondary level. They used the techniques like individual work, pair work, group work, discovery techniques, role play, group discussion, and strip story in teaching English. However, dramatization technique was not used in their classrooms. Lack of teaching materials, lack of time, domination of GT method, over-crowded classroom, lack of training and low level of language proficiency of learners were found as the problems in the use of Learners-centered techniques. The present research has been organized into five chapters. The first chapter includes with the general background, statement of problem, objectives of this study, research questions significance of this study, delimitation and operational definitional of the key terms. The second chapter consists with the review of related literature and conceptual framework. The third chapter includes with the design of the study, population, sample, sampling strategy, sources of data, data collection tools and techniques, data collection procedures, data analysis and interpretation procedure, and ethical considerations. Similarly, the fourth chapter deals of analysis and interpretations of the data collected form the respondents. The chapter five consists of findings, conclusion and recommendations. The recommendations of further presented three levels as policy, practice and further research, references and appendixes are attached at the end.Item Motivation Techniques Used by English Language Teachers(Department of English Education, 2018) Shyada, Prem BahadurThe present research work entitled Motivation Techniques Used by English Language Teachers was an attempt to explore motivation techniques used by English language teachers teaching in Bachelor level to motivate the students in the classroom. Both the primary and secondary sources of data were utilized in the study. This research study followed survey research design. The data were collected from forty Bachelor level English teachers of Kathmandu valley. The teachers were selected by using purposive non- random sampling method. The data collected through classroom observation and questionnaire were analyzed and interpreted descriptively and statistically. It was found that teachers used various motivation techniques such as create supportive and pleasant atmosphere, establish good rapport with the students, have a humor and fun, make teaching materials relevant to motivate the students in target language classroom. Likewise, the study displays that there were different challenges faced by the English teachers while motivating the students. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction of the topic in which background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study, operational definitions of key terms are included. The second chapter includes the review of theoretical literature, empirical literature, implications of the review of the study and conceptual framework. Finally, the reference and the appendices are presented.Item Participation of Magar Students in English Language Classroom Interaction(Department of English Education, 2022) Magar, ChawankajiThe present study is on the Participation of Magar Students in English Language Classroom Interaction. The main objective of the study was to find out the participation rate of Magar students' in English language classroom interaction. I used mixed method research design. The required data were collected by using observation and questionnaires. The total sample size was forty Magar students, Twenty Magar students’ parents and two English teachers of Shree Janata secondary school, Udayapur. I adopted non-random purposive sampling procedure for selecting the sample. The data were quantitative and qualitative, obtained from observation and questionnaires. The major findings of this study were the participation rate of Magar students in English language classroom interaction was satisfactory in class 7 i.e. (50%), less interactive in class 8 (33.33%), more interactive in class 9 (62.5%) and satisfactory in class 10 (50%). The participation rate of Magar students in interaction activities in English language classroom was directly and indirectly affected by social, economic and educational background of their parents and most of Magar students face problems in English language classroom i.e. grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing. This study consists of five chapters. Chapter one includes background of the study, statement of the problem, objective of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. And chapter two deals with the review of relevant literature and the conceptual framework of the research. Finally, chapter five deals with the conclusion and recommendations of the study.Item Reading Comprehension of Twelfth Grader on Literary Text(Department of English Education, 2022) Gupta, SabitaThis thesis entitled Reading Comprehension of Twelfth Grader on Literary Text has been carried out to find out the comprehension level of the students in poetry and short story and make comparisons. The students, studying at grade 12 in community and private colleges of Morang district were the sources of data for this study. They were examined by tests based on four different types, each bearing 50 full marks. Two texts were seen and two were unseen. Altogether 60 students were taken as the sample population to administer the test. From the analysis of the data obtained, it is found that the comprehension level of grade 12 students were better in poetry than in short story. The overall comprehension level of male students is better in poetry than female. The overall comprehension level in seen texts is better than in unseen texts, their performance as better in the objectives types of test than subjective types of test. This dissertation consists of five chapters. Each chapter is divided into different sub-chapters. The first chapter is an introductory chapter. It includes general background, statement of the problem, rationale of the research, objectives of the research, research questions, significance of the study and delimitations. References and appendices are presented at the end of this chapter.Item Students' Perceptions on Critical Pedagogy as a Method of Student Empowerment(Department of English Education, 2016) Acharya, HariThis research study entitled Students' Perception on Critical Pedagogy as a Method of Student Empowerment was an attempt to find out the perceptions of master level students on critical pedagogy. I selected thirty students studying at T.U., Kirtipur through non-random sampling procedure. A set of questionnaire,consisting of bothclose-ended and open-ended questions, wasdistributed to the respondents in order to collect their perceptions and roles. By analyzing and interpreting the primary sources of data students have shown the positive attitudes towards the critical pedagogy. The key findings of the study showed that there should be democratic learning environment focusing humanism and learner autonomy. It helps to develop the dialogue that provides liberation to the students. The local curriculum helps to meet the needs and interests of the studentsthat gives emancipation for equity based pedagogy which seeks to transform the society. Individualization of the study, which is grounded on learner interest and socio-cultural background, is essential to empower the learner in linguistic activities. Chapter five incorporates findings, conclusions and implications in the language classroom.Item Types of Teacher’s Feedback and Their Role in Learning English(Department of English Education, 2014) Pokharel, ManishaThis thesis entitled "Types of Teacher’s Feedback and their Role in Learning English" was carried out to find role of the teachers’ feedback in learning English.The main objective of the study was to find out the ways of giving feedback used by English teachers in learning English. It was a survey research. I collected the data from secondary schools of Kathmandu district. The required data were collected by using questionnaire and observation checklist. The total samples were four teachers from two schools where ten classes of each teacher were observed. The finding of this research showed that teachers’ feedback make the students aware of their strength and weaknesses so that they can improve their learning. This thesis consists of five chapters: The first chapter is introductory in nature.It introduces feedback in general. It also includes, statement of the problem,rationale of the study, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definition of the keyterms.
