Item Challenges faced by Maithili speaking learners of basic level while learning english(2023) Jha, JyotiThis study entitled "Challenges Faced by Maithili Speaking Students of Basic Level in Learning English", was an attempt to find out the challenges faced by Maithili students in learning English. A mixed method research design was used in this study. Forty Basic Level 'Maithili students of Malangwa Municipality, Sarlahi' were selected as a sample using purposive sampling strategy. I selected school according to its good fame name and discipline environment. Similarly, I selected the students by purposive sampling method taking average, good and low students on the basis of class performance and results. In this study, questionnaire and semi- structured interview were used as research tools. The data collected through questionnaire were analyzed descriptively and thematically. From the analysis of data and interpretations of the results, it was found that the main challenges they faced were complex rules of grammar, comprehension, vocabulary, pronunciation and spelling while learning English language. Similarly, mother tongue interference was found in pronunciation of English sound. The study consist of five chapters. The first chapter deals with background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the key terms. The second chapter deals with the review of the theoretical and empirical literature, implications of the review for the study and conceptual framework of the study. Likewise, the third chapter deals with the methodology adopted for the study which includes design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data, data collection procedures and data analysis and interpretation procedure of the collected data descriptively and using sample statistical tool i.e. percentage. Similarly, the fifth chapter presents the findings based on the analysis and interpretation of the data, including conclusion derived from the findings and recommendations in policy related, practice related and further research related level. This chapter is also followed by references and appendices.Item Challenges faced by Maithili speaking students while learning English(Department of English Education, 2023) Pandit, Sarita KumariThis study entitled Challenges Faced by Maithili Speaking Students While Learning English intended to identify the challenges faced by Maithili speaking students while learning English. This study followed quantitative research method. It was based on survey research design. Four public Schools of Rupani Rural Municipality' were selected assample by using purposive non-random samplingstrategy and forty basic level,Maithili speaking students were selected as sample by using random sampling strategy. In this study, questionnaire was used as research tool. The data collected through questionnaire were analysed descriptively and thematically. From the analysis of data and interpretations of the results, it is found that Maithili speaking students has been facing challenges regarding comprehension, communication and proficiency. Similarly, most of the students faced problem in reading and speaking. Due to their mother tongue interference, Maithili speaking students have felt hesitation and difficulty to speak English because of hesitation they could not speak English with their friends as well as with their teachers. This study consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions,significance of the study, delimitations of the study and the definitions of the key terms. The second chapter deals with the review of the theoretical and empirical literature, implications of the review for the study and conceptual frame work of the study. Similarly, the fifth chapter presents the findings, conclusion and recommendations based on the analysis and interpretation of the data.This chapter is also followed by references and appendices.Item Impact of Socio-Economic Status of Tharu students in Learning English(Department of English education, 2018) Chaudhary, SantoshThis research study entitled Impact of Socio-economic Status of Tharu StudentsinLearning English aimed to explore the impact of socio-economicstatus of Tharu students in learning English.All Tharu students of secondary level of Kailali district from both government-aided and private schools of Lamki-Chuha municipality were the population of the study. Purposively 3government-aided and 3 private schools were selected for the research.Among the Tharu students, 30 Tharu students of grade nine were selected randomly as sample of the study.In order to meet the objectives,I used a set of questionnaire as the main too land mark ledger as the secondary source to collect the required information.The collected data was analyzed and interpreted qualitatively and quantitatively using tables and graphs. The study found that factors belonging to socio-economic status such as parents' education, language, parents' support for study, family status in society,availabilityof materials, family income, parents' occupation and reading room has direct and indirect impact in learning English.Due to such factors there is no satisfactory achieve ment and result in learning English of Tharu studentsand they have to face challenges in learning English as their socio-economicstatus ismiserable and unsupportive. The study consistsof five chapters. The first chapter deals with the in troductionof the topic in which background of the study, statement of the problems,objectives of the study,research question, signi ficance of the study,delimitations of the study and operational definition of the key terms. The second chapters includes the review of the theoretical literature, review of empirical literature, implication of the review for study and conceptual framework. The third chapter contains design and method of the study, x population,sample and sampling strategies, study area, data collection procedure and analysis and interpretation procedure.The fourth chapter contains the analysis and interpretation of the collected data using different tables and figures. Similarly, the fifth chapter deals with the conclusion and recommendation and ends with references and appendices.Item Perception of Adult Women Students towards Learning English(Central department of English Education, 2012) Regmi, TulsaThe present study entitled ‘Perception of Adult Women Students Towards Learning English’ was carried out to find out the perception of women students on English language learning and the textbook ‘Our English’. I used both primary and secondary sources of data. The population of the study consisted of sixty informants. All of them were students of grade ten from different women schools of Kathmandu and Lalitpur districts. In order to find out the perception, a set of questionnaires was used. Data collected from field or informants were tabulated and analyzed applying simple statistical tools. I used tables, bar diagrams and pie- charts to analyze and present the collected data. From the collected data I found that women students are positive towards the English language learning. They wanted to talk in English. They loved and respected the people who speak English. Moreover, they wanted to teach English to their children and liked the schools which are focusing English from the very beginning. Though they faced difficulty in learning vocabularies, poems and essays, they felt that ‘Our English’ was a neither too difficult nor too easy subject. This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one consists of general background, review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. Similarly, chapter two contains methodology adapted in course of study i.e. sources of data, tools for data collection, sampling procedures and limitations of the study. Chapter three presents the analysis and interpretation of the data obtained through primary sources. Chapter four includes findings and recommendations which are derived and suggested with the help of analysis and interpretation of data. References and appendices are included at the end of this work to make it more valid.Item The role of extrinsic and intrinsic motivational factors learning English(Department of English Education, 2016) Thapa, SukdevThe research entitled " The Role of Extrinsic and Intrinsic Motivational Factors in Learning English” was carried out to find out the factors that motivated students to learn English . The population of the study were the students who were studying at class ten of two governmental schools of Salyan district. Forty students were selected from two schools Amarjyoti Secondary School Tharmare-7 and Mahendra Higher Secondary School Jimali-6 , Salyan as sample through non-random sampling. A set of questionnaire was used as a tool for data collection. The findings of my research shows that the majority of learners are motivated with the intrinsic factors like the prestige getting from society as an English learner, their already aim to be a good English learner, its scope, opportunities and importance. On the other hand, extrinsic factors like teaching method, overcrowded classes, noisy classes, career related factors, social factors, economic factors, language related factors, leaner attitude towards education system are the factors due to which learners are de-motivated. This thesis has been divided into five different chapters. The first chapter, includes background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives, research questions, significance, delimitations and operational definitions of key terms of the study. Similarly, the second chapter deals with the review of related theoretical literature, empirical literature, implication of the review for the study and conceptual framework. The third chapter deals with the methodology employed to conduct the study. It gives information about the design of the study, population and sample, sampling strategies, study area, data collection tools, data collection procedure and data analysis and interpretation procedure. Collected data were presented, analyzed and interpreted applying statistical tools like frequency and percentage in the fourth chapter. It also includes summary of the findings. The fifth chapter includes the conclusions and recommendations. Some recommendations for policy level, practice level and further research level are presented in this section. This chapter is followed by references and appendices.Item Using E-learning tools for enhancing English Language skills(Department of English Education, 2023) Jha, Bhawana KumariThis research, titled Using E-learning Tools for Enhancing English Language Skill saimed to investigate how E-Learning tools can enhance English language skills.This study employed narrative inquiry research design. The population of the research included Secondary Level studentsof class 12 Major English selected as the sample for study by using non-random purposive sampling. I selected open-ended in-depth interview to elicit the required data. I collected data in two stages firstly met the respondents and talked informally and build rapport with respondents and then only held interview to collect data and interpreted thematically as well descriptively.The findings of this study showed that the English Language learners used E-Learning tools for the enhancement of their language skills to get enough exposure for their language learning. On the other hand, use of E-learning tools for language proficiency as well as for adequate fluency development. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the general background, statement of problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study, and operational definitions of key terms. The second chapter deals with the review of the theoretical and empirical literature, implications of the review and conceptual framework of the study.
