Item English Collocations in Use: A Case of Master's Level Students of Nepal(Department of English Education, 2008) K.C., RajendraThisresearch entitled'English Collocationsin Use: A Case of Master'sLevel Students of Nepal' was aimed to ascertain the frequency ofcollocation pattern used and to make analysis of theproficiency of themasterslevel students of Nepalin the use of collocation. The samplesizeof the study consisted of 52 students of Masters levelstudents of Kathmandu Valley selected though purposive samplingprocedure. A set of test items was prepared to collect the data. The data,thus, obtained were marked and tabulated very systematically. Thenanalysis and interpretation was done on the basis of the tabulated data inaccordance with the set objectives. Finally, some recommendations weremade on the basis of the findings derived from the analysis andinterpretationof the data. The researcher found that the learners use of the collocation pattern wasasymmetrical i.e. used adjective-noun collocation pattern frequently thanother combinations namely verb-adverb and adverb + adjectivecollocation, however, their proficiency in the use of all the patternsexcept verb + adverb combination was average. This thesis consists of four chapters: the first chapter comprises generalbackground, introduction to collocation and its importance, review ofrelated literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology adopted to carry out thisresearch. It contains the sources of data (both primary and secondary),population of the study, sampling procedure, tool for data collection,process of data collection, limitations of the study and data analysisprocedure.The third chapter consists of the analysis and interpretation of thefrequency and then proficiency in the use of collocation doneindividually, holistically and comparatively in terms of different variablesused in the study. Analysis and interpretation has been done by usingsimple statistical tools of average and percentage. The fourth chapter presents the findings derived from the analysis andinterpretation of the data. It also suggests some recommendations on thebasis of the findings and the researcher's own opinion. The final sectionof the study includes the references and appendices.Item A Study on English Vocabulary Achievement of Grade Four IV Students(Department of English Education, 2007) Das, Dinesh KumarThis study attempts to determine grade IV students' achievement of vocabulary included in grade IV textbook. The students under this study are altogether eighty (80) in numbers, twenty (20) from each of four schools of Lalitpur district. The researcher prepared a list of content words (noun, verbs, adjectives and adverbs) used in the English textbook of grade four and counted their frequency. The vocabulary items having high frequency were taken. A set of written tests was used as the main tool or instrument for the data collection. The data were provided by the 80 students of two urban and two sub-urban schools of Lalitpur district. The sample population was selected by using a random sampling procedure. Twenty students were selected from each school. The data obtained were analyzed and interpreted using descriptive approach and simple statistical tools i.e. mean and percentage. The findings of the study showed that the English vocabulary Achievement of the students of grade four in content words was found satisfactory in total but not in school-wise analysis. It was found that there was a great disparity in students' achievement of English vocabulary in different schools. Overall, in urban schools the achievement of students in content words was found better than those of sub-urban schools. The present work is divided into four chapters. The first chapter includes general background, review of the related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology, which includes sources of data collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter is concerned with the analysis and interpretation of data. Findings and recommendations are given in the fourth chapter. The study was carried out using bothprimary and secondary sources of data.Teaching vocabulary is taken asastressful liability on the part of teachers and students.However,the study bearsthe facts of better results of use of sense relations for teaching them in thesense that all the students passedthetests and more importantly, only a fewstudents showed problems inthecorrect use of vocabulary. The study was divided into four main chapters and sub-chapters. The firstchapter contains general background, aspect of language, importanceofteaching /learning vocabulary, types of vocabulary,wordclass, techniques ofteaching vocabulary,sense relation and action research. This chapter alsoincludes the review oftherelated literature, objectives and significance of thestudy. The second chapter deals with the methodology applied in the study assource of data and data collection procedure. This chapter also states thelimitationsof the study. The third chapter presents analysis and interpretationof the data. The fourth chapter consists of the findings and recommendationsbased on the analysis and interpretation ofthedata. Reference and appendicesare attached attheend.Item Techniques Used for Teaching Abstract Nouns(Department of English, 2015) Pandey, WiplaviThis study entitled "Techniques Used for Teaching Abstract Nouns" has been carried out to find out techniques used for teaching abstract nounsand to identify the problems.I used all the lower secondary school teachers of Syangja district as the population in this study.I selected thirty teachers as the sample by using random sampling procedures. I used aset of questionnaire,interview and classroom observation checklist as the tools to collect to the data.The collected data were analyzed and interpreted both quantitatively and qualitatively. It was found that ostensive, audio and linguistic techniques wereused but could not make clear concept on abstract vocabulary due to intangible concept.After this study it was also found that the problem arose due to misinterpretation, misunderstanding and ignorance in learning. This study has been incorporated in five different chapters.The first chapter deals with background of study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study and the operational definitions of the key terms. The second chapter deals withthe review of related theoretical literature, empirical literature and conceptual framework. Similarly, third chapter consists of design of the study, populationsample and sampling strategy, study area, data collection tools, data collection procedure and data analysis and interpretation procedure. Forth chapter deals with analysis and interpretation of results. In the same way, fifth chapter presents conclusion and recommendations.
