Item Activities Used in Teaching Novel(Central Department of English Education, 2011) Shahi, Dhana BahadurThis research work entitled'Activities Used in Teaching Novel'attempted tofind out the activities used by the teachers of grade twelve while teachingnovel. It also tried to discover the uniformity between the teachers' and thestudents' responses regarding theactivities used in teaching novel. The majortools of data collection were teachers' and students' questionnaires and classobservation form. The primary data was collected from 25 English teachers and50 major English students of grade twelve from Bardiadistrict who wereselected purposively. All the teachers were provided questionnaires and 5teachers were selected purposively for class observation. Four classes of eachteacher were observed. Ten students were selected purposively from eachschool and given questionnaire at the end of the 4 th day's class observation. Thecollected data has been analyzed and interpreted using simple statistical tools.It was found that the teachers used different activities, viz. giving backgroundinformation, discussingtitle, providing signpost questions, describingcharacters, giving summary, providing critical analysis, asking students to writecritical analysis and so on. It was also found that there was a minimaluniformity but a maximal difference between their responses regarding theactivities used in teaching novel. This study consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with generalbackground, review of related literature, objectives and significance of thestudy. Chapter two deals with the procedure applied tocarry out the research. Itincludes sources of data, sample population and sampling procedure, tools fordata collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. Chapterthree comprises analysis and interpretation of the data. Chapter four deals withthe major findings of the study and some recommendations.Item Activities Used in Teaching Poetry(2011) Phuyal, SaugatThe present study entitled 'Activities used in teaching poetry', is an attempt to explore the activities used while teaching poetry in 'New Generation English'. The study also aims to find out the students' perception on the activities employed. The study is based on both primary and secondary sources of data. The primary sources of data were teachers and students from B.Ed. first year in eight colleges of Kathmandu district. While undergoing research, the researcher used the non-probability sampling procedure to sample the population. Eight B.Ed. colleges of Kathmandu district were selected on the basis of judgmental sampling. The researcher finds various activities like, pre-reading activities, while reading activities and post-reading activities are being used while teaching poetry in 'New Generation English'. The researcher also finds the students' perception on the activities employed. Majority of the students are found to be satisfied with pre-reading activities performed by their teachers whereas they are found not to be satisfied with while-reading activities and post-reading activities. This study incorporates four main chapters and other many sub-chapters. The first chapter deals with the general background of the study, review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter consists of the methodology, data gathering procedure, and limitations of the study. Similarly, the third chapter induces the analysis and interpretation of data. In the same way, the fourth chapter presents findings and recommendations based on the analysis and interpretation of the collected data. The final parts of the study consists of references and appendices.Item Challenges of Teaching Poetry in The B.Ed. Compulsory English Course(Central department of English Education, 2012) Bhugai, BharatiThis research entitled, Challenges of teaching poetry in the B.Ed. Compulsory English course aims to identify the problems related to teaching poetry in the B.Ed. compulsory English course. I adopted random sampling procedure to select the campuses and teachers concerned. Sample checklists and questionnaires were used as the tools for data collection. The main finding of this research was that the teachers' problems related to teaching poetry in B.Ed. level are common are lack of materials about foreign writer and also about literature, use of old language forms, no background information and clues, lack of language about foreign lecturer. It is however recommended some remedial measures for the problem. The thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one includes general background followed by introduction of the poetry, its types, use of poetry in the language class. Chapter two deals with methodology. It includes sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. Chapter three manifests analysis and interpretation of the data collected from the informants. Chapter four presents the findings recommendations and pedagogical importance of the study. The references and appendices are given at the end.Item Strategies Used in Teaching Poetry(Faculty of English Education, 2011) Dahal, Nava RajThis thesis entitled "Strategies Used in Teaching Poetry" is intended to discover the strategies applied by the teachers while teaching poems in Grade XII. For this, data have been collected from four Higher Secondary Schools of Dangihat, Hasandaha and Amardaha VDCs of Morang district through interview, questionnaire and observation taken from the respected subject teachers and students. The purposed study has been divided into four chapters. Chapter one encompasses general background, review of related literature, objectives of the study, significance of the study. Chapter two deals with methodology. It incorporates sources of data, population of the study, sample population, tools for data collection, limitation of the study and process of data analysis. Chapter three includes analysis and interpretation of data. Chapter four consists of finding and recommendations. Some findings have been presented on the basis of the analysis and interpretation done in the previous chapters. The major findings are; the teachers still use traditional strategies of teaching poetry. In comparison to city area than in village area, the teachers follow pre-teaching, while- teaching and post-teaching activities. With the help of findings conclusion is drawn and some recommendations are made. The appendices and references are given in the final part of the thesis
