Abstract
he present research work entitled Multiple Translation of Cultural Terms: A
Case of the Novella Metamorphosis is an attempt to deal with the techniques in
translation of the cultural terms by the multiple translators used in the novella
Metamorphosis. The main objectives of the study were to find out techniques and
frequencies of their use in the translation of the cultural terms by multiple
translators and to compare the techniques employed by the multiple translators in
translating the cultural terms with the original translator of the very novella. The
study was carried out by adopting the survey research design. The data were
collected from the both primary and secondary sources using translation text as the
major tool for data collection. Fifty cultural terms were selected from the novella
for the study. The cultural terms were selected by adopting purposive non-random
sampling strategy. The study showed literal translation technique was the most
frequently used technique ( i.e 54%) and definition and transliteration were the
least used technique (i.e. 2.2%) of the total frequency while translating the cultural
terms from SL to TL. Similarly, explanation and notes highly supported in
translation to maintain the original flavor of the ST.
This study consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with background of the
study, statements of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions,
significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definition of
the key terms. The second chapter deals with the review of theoretical and
empirical literature, implication of the reviewed for the study and conceptual
framework of the study. Likewise, the third chapter deals with the methods and
procedures of the study in which, design of the study, population, sample and
sampling strategy, research tools sources of data, data collection procedures and
data analysis and interpretation procedures and ethical consideration. The fourth
chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of the collected data
descriptively and using simple statistical tools. Similarly, the fifth chapter deals
with the findings based on the analysis and interpretation of the data, conclusion
derived from the findings and recommendations. This chapter is followed by
references and appendices.
