Abstract

The studywas focused on error analysis based on Newman Error Analysis. The purpose of this study was to identify the error, compare the errormsdeby boysand girlsand find the causesof errorwaywith to minimize these errors in solvingword problems at primarylevels. The research design of this study was small survey. The sample for this studyconsisted 40 students by random sampling and 4 teachers for interview. Theresearcher developed two types of instruments, test item and interview schedule forstudents andonly interview for teachers. Researcher classified errors on five heading:reading, comprehension, transformation, process skill and encoding. Thenfrequencies, percentage of error were taken. From this study researcher extended thefollowing conclusion:  Students committed maximum errors in transformation after thatcomprehension, process skill and encoding respectively but didn’t commit anyerrors in reading level.  The role of gender is less important to committing the errors it means there isno significant difference between boys and girls to solve word problem inmathematics.  Lack of pre knowledge, active less in class, careless, can’t choose appropriateoperation, socio economics status of students, large class size, study habit ofstudents are causes of error occurrences.  To minimize the error, teacher should focus on why and how students makemistake, try to improve classroom management, to participant in mathematicalgame and quiz, helps to make home environment for study. This study was limitedon rural area of Tanahun District of Nepal.
