Abstract
The present study entitled "A Study of the Vocabulary used in My EnglishBook for Grade Two" is an attempt to study the vocabulary items used in thetextbook for Grade Two on the basis of parts of speech, frequency, syllablestructure and consonant cluster and morphological structure. Basically, all thevocabulary items used in the English textbook for Grade Two are the secondarysources of data for this study. The major findings of this study are: nouns occupy the highest number ofvocabulary itemsin the textbook. The auxiliary verbishas the highest numberof frequency among all the words found in the Grade Two textbook.Monomorphemic and polymorphemic words are also found to be used in thetextbook. Both definite and indefinite articles are found to be used in thetextbook of Grade Two. The study is divided into four chapters. Chapter one introduces the study interms of general background, review of the related literature, objectives of thestudy and definition of the specific terms. Chapter two deals with the methodology adopted for the study under which thesources of data, process of data collection and limitations of the study arepresented. Chapter three consists of analysis and interpretation of vocabulary items.Mainly descriptive and analytical approaches have been used for the purpose. Chapter four discusses the major findings and recommendations of the study.
