dc.description.abstract | The present research work is the study of historical consciousness of 1930s, the age in between the interwar eras in William Somerset Maugham'sChristmas Holiday. By creating fictional story of primarily Simon, Lydia, Charley and Robert Berger, Maugham writes the history of the contemporary period. This research analyses the ideologies of the characters and their peculiar lifestyles, in which they live. The study has been contextualized on the ideologies of the age like fascism, nazism, totalitarianism, nationalism and secular ideology. Thus, the research has been done particularly upon the central character Simon who lives with these ideologies and beliefs representing the consciousness of the age. | en_US |
