Item Corporate Governance Practices in Nepalese Commercial Banks(Department of Management, 2021) Syangbo, AsmitaCorporate governance practices are essential to achieving and maintaining the public trust and confidence in the banking system, as a result they are critical to the proper functioning of the banking sector and economy as a whole. However, little attention has being given to corporate governance of banking sector especially in developing economies. This study examines the corporate governance on perceived performance. There are many dimensions of corporate governance but in this study only five components(transparency, accountability, fairness, discipline and responsibility)are considered as the factor of good corporate governance. The objective of this research is to analyze the impact of corporate governance on perceived performance of the commercial banks of Nepal. The study employed a qualitative methodology. Data was collected through a self-administered survey questionnaire. The questionnaire is adopted from a previous validated survey. The target population consists of commercial banks of Nepal. Simple convenience sampling is used for collection of data from 200 employees. The results indicate a positive relationship between corporate governance and perceived performance. The study concludes with some brief prospects that the businesses need to realize the importance of good corporate governance for maximizing the perceived performance. This paper may benefit society by encouraging people to contribute more to their jobs and may help them in their personal growth and development. Hence, it is essential for an organization to motivate their employees to work hard for achieving the organizational goals and objectives.Item Economic Impact of Microfinance in Nepal (A Case Study of Ranibagiya Municipality, Rupandehi District)(Department of Management, 2021) Gautam, BinitaThis study has been carried out on “Impact of Microfinance on Women Empowerment in Ranibagiya, Sainamaina” is carried out by using primary data collection in the field survey. The field survey covers Sainamaina Municipality-5,Ranibagiya. 160 women aged 23 to 62 years are selected under the purposive samplings, who have taken loan at least one time. The main objective of the study is to explore the impact of microfinance (MF)program for women empowerment in the study area.For the data collection, key informant interview, household survey and observation techniques are used and interview schedule and checklist are taken as tools. The statistical tools mainly percentage,correlation and regression analysis are used to analyze the data. SPSS computer has been has for the accurate calculation. To illustrate the research work,table and figures are used for data presentation. The study shows that majority of the women are literate. Before the intervention of the program, 58.82 percent of sampled women are engaged in agriculture and after the intervention of the program, 57.5 percent of the women are engaged to earn their livelihood. After the program, women are especially attracted towards the retail business and private firms which are economically benefited. Even if the members are in economical problems, they have been saving regularly which shows that the poor people also can save small amount of money regularly. The positive correlation between investment and changes in income level of the participants shows that the capability of the entrepreneurs for the repayment of the loan in due time is good. The saving and investment, high rate of repayment and utilization of loan have been satisfactory. This shows financial sustainability and viability of the program. However there is still room for improvement with regard to management of misuse of loan. The overall impact of the program is found to be satisfactory. Most of the participants of the survey have been able to increase their income and the program intervention has brought positive change in status of women.Increase in income along with empowering process increased in standard of living of women’s family which endeavored change in livelihood. The provision of loan disbursement to the women should be based upon the proper evaluation of the economic viability of the program. Training should be made well conscious about proper utilization and mobilization of saving and investment. The effort on monitoring and supervision should be increased. Credit should also be mobilized for developing socio-economic infrastructure.Item Green Banking Practices and Perceived Performance of Nepalese Commercial Banks (With Reference to Kathmandu Valley)(Department of Management, 2020) Pariyar, BikashIn recent years, both academics and banking professionals are paying more attention towards the green banking concepts due to its significant influence on environment management in banking context. This paper tries to highlight the present context of green banking practices of commercial banks in Nepal. The objective of this research study is to explore the relationship between green banking practices and perceived performance of commercial banks in Nepal. In addition, this study also tries to examine the impact of green banking on perceived performance of commercial banks in Nepal In order to achieve the objectives, this study is carried out on the six commercial banks of Kathamandu valley. A sample of 300 employees is selected to determine the awareness and perception of bank employees towards Green Banking practices. This study has used both descriptive and explanatory research design. Primary data is collected through a closed end structured questionnaire. The collected data is analyzed by applying both qualitative and quantitative data analysis techniques. The study concludes that majority of the bank's employees are totally aware of the Green Banking service and its products. Moreover, the results showed that there are significant positive effects of green investment, risk management, green human resource, green business strategy, green product and service. positive on perceived performances of commercial banks. And it is also proved that the green banking highly influenced perceived performances of the commercial banks. A quantitative method is used for this research with five companies as research object, measured by purposive sampling techniques.The descriptive, correlational and regression has been employed in this study. Firm value(Tobin’s Q) was taken as dependent variables and whereas Company growth(GROWTH), dividend policy(DPR), profitability(ROA) and firm size(SIZE) were independent variables.The results show that firm size, dividend policy, profitability and growth have significant effect on firm value in financial sector companies in the period 2015-2019.Simultaneous results also show that dividend policy, profitability, firm size and growth had some effects on firm value.The data were collected from the Banking and Financial Statistics and Supervision Report published by Nepal Rastra Bank, and annual reports of selected banks. The regression models were estimated to test the effect of bank specific variables on performance of Nepalese financial institutions.The study recommended that the commercial banks board of directors, chief executive officer and marketing officer, stakeholders are taken carefully decision about company growth, firm size, profitability and dividend policy variable to increase the firm value.Item Impact of Internal Corporate Social Responsibility Practices on Organizational Commitment in Nepalese Commercial Banks(Department of Management, 2021) Dhami, LaxmanThe Nepalese commercial banks is very worthy for study as it is now an important sector playing a key role in improving the societies through the price and value financial assets, monitoring borrowers, managing financial risk and organizing the payment system. The commercial banks seems to be the most sensitive to the impact of internal Corporate Social Respnsibility. This because an outstanding feature of the banking industry is that it is subject to a more diverse and complex stakholders than the other sector of the economy.Banking needs to be socially reponsible to build their reputation which effect on attract high quality employees. This study have shown that employee prefer and want to work for corporations that are regards as ethical and responsible. This study examines the imapct of internal Corporate Social Respnsibility practices on organizational commitment in Nepalese Commercial banks. Specially we examine the impact of five dimension of internal Corporate Social Responsibility practices on organizational commitment : Labour relation, Work-Life Balance, Health & Safety, and Training and Development. The proposed model was tasted on a sample of 200 employees in Nepales commercial banks. The shown that all internal Corporate Social Responsibility dimensions are significantly and positively association with organizational commitment. Perception are formed and are influenced by attitude, perceived opportunity, risk -bearing propensity, perceived educational support and many other factors. Data are collected using primary source of data only. The technique employed is multiple regressions as tool of analysis for the study. The finding of the study shows that the attitude towards act and risk-bearing propensity positively and significantly impacted on the perception of students to pursue entrepreneurship as career in the future. However, the study shows perceived opportunity and perceived educational support from the university are not significant in influencing the perception. The study therefore, recommends the university to design better programs to equip the students with necessary skills and to build positive perception required for fostering entrepreneurship .Item Portfolio Management of Nepalese Commercial Banks(Department of Management, 2020) Subedi, SagarPortfolio is collection of investment securities. Portfolio theory deals with the selection of optimal portfolio; that is, portfolio that provides the highest possible return for any specified degree of risk or the lowest possible risk for any specified rate of return. A portfolio is usually defined as a combination of asset. Hence, in this paper, an attempt is made to evaluate the portfolio management of scheduled Nepalese commercial banks in the period from 2013/14 to 2017/18. The research design adopted in the study is descriptive and analytical. Analysis is done by taking secondary data to present the position of investment, risk & return and ratios. The data have been collected from Nepal stock exchange (NEPSE), Securities board of Nepal (SEBON), and annual report of the sampled banks. This study attempts to examine the portfolio management of Nepalese commercial banks. Under the portfolio management different sector like investment on securities, loan and advance to customers, placement with banks and financial institutions and loan & advance to banks and financial institutions has been considered. The study shows that highest proportion of investment of commercial banks is under loan and advance to customers this might be result due to the higher return in this investment. Furthermore the lowest investment is made in loan and advance in banks and financial institutions. The portfolio return and portfolio risk is 6.48%, 1.20% respectively. The study shows higher correlation between placement with banks & financial institutions and loan & advance to customers whereas correlation between investment securities and loan & advance to banks & financial institutions is lowest. Overall ratio analysis indicates Standard chartered bank limited has better performance in every sector then that of Nepal investment bank limited & Everest bank limited.
