Item An Analysis Of Language Functions Used In English Textbook For Grade Nine(Department of English, 2017) Upadhyaya, Shiv SharanThe research entitled "An Analysis of Language Function Used in English Textbook for Grade Nine" is an attempt to analyze the language functions in relation to their exponents used in the textbook for grade nine. This is an intensive study which the researcher carried out on the basis of theoretical framework mentioned by Office of Qualification and Examination Regulation,Of qual (2011), Sato (2011), Harmer (2008), and Little John (1991). In order to collect data, the researcher prepared two sets of checklist as the research tool based on twenty eight academic functional criteria proposed by Sato (2011).The source of data for this study was secondary. The researcher analyzed and interpreted the collected data descriptively and analytically. While analyzing the language functions used in the textbook, the researcher found most of the language exponents used in the textbook met both lower and higher complexity functional criteria of academic language proposed by Sato (2011) and the exponents were supportive to enhance communicative competence. It was also found that some language functions were found not be presented with sufficient exponents. The present study consists of five chapters. The first chapter consists of introductory part. It deals with back ground of the study followed by statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, de-limitations of the study and finally operational definitions of the key terms. The second chapter of the study consists of review of both theoretical and empirical literature, implications of review of the study and conceptual framework. The third chapter incorporates the method and procedure of the study followed by design of the study, sample and sampling procedure, research tools, source of data, data collection procedure, data analysis procedure and ethical considerations. Similarly, the fourth chapter contains analysis and interpretation of the result. Lastly, the fifth chapter deals with the findings, conclusion and recommendations under three levels followed by references and appendices.Item Condolence, Compliments and Sympathy in English and Nepali(Department of English Education, 2008) Lamichhane, BhogendraThis study is to identify and compare the exponents of condolence, complimentsand sympathy used by the native English and Nepali speakers. The study is divided into four chapters.Chapter oneis an introductory. It includesgeneral background, review of the related literature, objectives of the study, andsignificance of the study.Chapter twodeals with the methodology applied to carryout the research under which sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for datacollection, process of data collection and limitations of the study are presented.Chapter threepresents analysis and interpretation of the data. In this section bothstatistical as well as descriptive approach are used.Chapter fourincorporatesfindings and recommendations of the research. To this end, I purposively selected a private school,Salbas Sunrise Higher Secondary School from Nawalparasi district. In order to collectdata, both, theprimary andthesecondary sources, were used. Thirty-three students ofGrade IX, who were selected using simple random sampling procedure, wereinvolved in this study. The students were divided into two groups, anexperimentalgroup anda controlled group. The main tools for data collection were tests items. Apre-test was administered before students were divided into two groups. Both thegroups were taught for 24 days(the experimental group was taught usingdramatization technique and the controlled group was taught as usual classroomtechniques). Afterthetreatment, the post-test was administered,by using the samesets of test itemsthat were administered in the pre-test. After analysis andinterpretation of the data the experimental group which was taught through dramatechnique excelled the controlled group by 21.64% holistically. Thus, I can say thatthe dramatization technique was more effective, interactive and interesting than usualclassroom techniques like discussion and lecture. The thesis has been divided into four chapters. The first chapter consists of thebackground of the study, review of the related literature and objectives of the study.Chapter two deals with the methodology adopted for the study under which thesources of data, sampling procedures, tools for data collection, process of datacollection and limitation of the study are presented. Likewise, chapter threepresentsthe analysis and interpretation of the data. In this section, both the statistical as well asdescriptive approaches have been used. Finally, the present research summarizes thewhole study by presenting findings and suggesting some recommendations.Item English Code-Mixing in The Nepal Samacharpatra Daily(Central department of English Education, 2012) Khadga Chandra, Jang Sen ThakuriThis thesis entitled English Code-mixing in the Nepal Samacharpatra Daily attempted to present the study to find out English word classes, phrases, sentences and language functions which are used in the Nepal Samacharpatra Daily. Nouns and noun phrases were mixed highly. The English words and phrases mixed in the newspapers were common. Simple sentences and the language functions as greeting, expressing love, etc. were frequently mixed in the NSP Daily. This thesis consists of four chapters viz. Introduction, Methodology, Analysis and Interpretation of Data and Findings and Recommendations. The first chapter contains introduction, literature review, objectives of the study and significance of the study. Sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study have been dealt with in the second chapter. The third chapter includes the analysis and interpretation of the data elicited. English code mixing in the issues of the NSP Daily is analyzed and interpreted in terms of word classes, phrases, sentence types, and language functions. The fourth chapter includes findings and recommendations on the basis of the study, analysis and interpretation of the daItem English Used in Medicine Marketing(Faculty of Education, 2008) Atreya, Hari RajThe research entitled 'English Used in Medicine Marketing'is an attempt to find out the sentence patterns and functions oflanguage used in medicine marketing. The sample population consisted of 30different medical representatives who were selected by usingstratified judgmental sampling procedure. The researcher took 10representatives while detailing orthopaedic products, 7 whiledetailing paediatric products, 7 while detailing gynaecologicalproducts and 6 while detailing general products. I applied simple random sampling purposively which is mostly used in the non-probability sampling design. For this, I recorded 40 telephone conversations of both exchanges from cell phones and landlines. The main finding of this study is that Simple sentences hold the most frequency with socializing functions, greeting. It also hold equal frequency with expressing the degree of certainty and thanking. The least frequency of simple sentences came with the communicative functions like congratulating and requesting in recorded telephone conversations.
