Item Achievement in Mathematics between Institutional and Community School(DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS EDUCATION CENTRRAL DEPART OF EDUCATION UNIVERSITY CAMPUS TRIBHUVAN UNIVERSITY KIRTIPUR, KATHMANDU NEPAL, 2016) Nepali, SantoshThis study aimed to find out the achievement in mathematics, comparing the students' achievement in mathematics' among the secondary level students of community and institutional schools and seeking out the crucial factors that play roles in achievement gap of the students between these schools. The study is of survey design and 8 institutional and 8 community schools of Sindhuli district were selected by stratified random sampling and all together 320 students such that 20 students from each of these schools are selected as a sample. Students' studying at IX grade were considered as sample population of this research. The parents' education status, parents' occupational status, student regularity, class size, quality of teachers, tuition fees, family guidance, role of administration, extra-curricular activities were also considered as the supplementary primary data. The achievement test and a set of closed questionnaire were developed as the tools for data collection. The mathematics achievement were examined and were compared and set of closed questionnaire were filled up among 320 students. The statistical technique used in this study, were mean scores, standard deviation and two tailed z-test. Based on the interpretation and analysis of the data, it is found that the mathematics achievement score of institutional school students is higher than the community school students and concluded that there is significant difference between community and institutional school students in their achievement in mathematics. Also it is found that factors parents' education status, parents' occupation status, students' regularity, class size quality of teachers, tution fees, family guidance, role of administration and extra-curricular activities play an important role for the gap in mathematics achievement of institutional and community schools.Item English Language Proficiency of Students from Ethnic Groups: A Case Study of Community Schoolsin Baglung District(Faculty of English, 2019) Sapkota, ShantiThisstudyentitled“English Language Proficiency of Students from Ethnic Groups: A Case Study of Community Schools in Baglung District”is in fact an apparent case study that aims at revealing the reality behind the poor English proficiency among most of the school students of ethniccommunities. It advocates the need to reanalyze the social level in order to improve the level of English proficiency. This research will certainly be a guideline for the educationalists and planners who are tending their best to bring a change in English education in Nepal.Item Parents' attraction to wards English medium classes in community schools(Department of English Education, 2023) Rai, DipaThe present study is entitled" Parent Attraction towards English Medium Classes in Community Schools"; aimed to explore the parents´ attractions towards teaching their children in English medium classes. Based on this research objective, the investigation was mainly focused to find out to what extend the parents were attracted and motivated to educate their children in English -as- a- medium – of – instruction (EMI) in the schools. In this regard, study was survey research design was followed for which parents of the 50 school children studying at different EMI schools in Dhankuta were sampled. A questionnaire was developed focusing on the main objectives and administered to derive the quantitative information for this research. Although this study was based on the survey research design, qualitative narratives were also used in the course of data analysis and interpretation. The study found that the lower secondary students’ parents were attracted toward English medium. English language is important because it offers different personality of children and provide quality education. Likewise, adopting English creates some challenges such as; parents have difficult to save Nepalese culture and maintain costly materials for their children. Within this parent motivate their children to acquire English by joining in English medium classes. So that, the study showed majority of the parents were positive towards English medium of classes. This research consists of five different chapters. Chapter one is the introductory part of this study. It includes the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. The Second chapter deals with review of theoretical literature, empirical literature and conceptual framework. The third chapter is the part of methodology and procedures of the study. This part included research design and method of the study, populations, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data collection, data collection procedures, data analysis and interpretation procedures and ethical considerations. Likewise, the fourth chapter included analysis and interpretation of results. And the last chapter five includes conclusions, and implications of the study. In the same way, in the final part of the thesis includes references and appendices.Item Role of Resource Center to Promote Quality Education in Community Schools(Department of Educational Planning and Management, 2010) Koirala, NarayanThis research on 'Role of Resource Center to Promote Quality Education in Community Schools' of Nepaledanda Resource Center in Bhojpuir district. The main objectives to carry out this research are to indentify the role of RC in promoting students' achievement, to analyze the role of RC in promoting quality education, to assess issues and problems related to quality education with a focus on RC and to suggest making the role of RC more effective. The RP of the resource center three primary level head teachers from sheer primary schools three primary level incharges from lower secondary or secondary level attached schools, five SMC presidents and sixteen other head teachers have been included in this research. It is the sample size. Selection of the RP and the sixteen head teachers (for focal group discussion) is purposeful and others were selected through random sampling. The main findings of this research are the learning outcome of community based schools' grade five students is poor, below 50% almost in every subject, the RC works as bridge to join schools to the district education office and it conducts some programmes such as short term teacher training, student oriented programme as well as guidance and counseling to promote quality education, it has many things to do in the future. It should start clinical supervision and action research and needs to increase its supervision frequency schedule.Item Students' experiences of using English medium instruction in community schools(Department of English Education, 2023) Thapa, SushmitaThe study entitled Students’ Experiences of Using English Medium Instructionin Community Schools was carried out to find out the students' experiences on using English medium instruction in community school and to analyze the parents' views toward the English medium. Keeping the objectives into consideration, population of this study were all secondary level students and their parents. Thirty students studying in community schools and three parents were selected as the sample by using purposive random sampling strategy. Mixed method design was used to conduct this study. Data in this study were collected by conducting semi- structure interview and questionnaire with the selected participants. Quantitative datawere analyzed statistically and qualitative data were analyzed by using thematic approach. The findings of the study showed that both students and parents have positive attitude towards English medium instruction. Students were highly motivated towards English medium instruction. Learning through English medium is very beneficial because it develops the English proficiency and to develop communication skills. Learning in English language provides lots of opportunities for carrier development and it also provides a better opportunity in national and international arenas. Despite these strengths, mother tongue interference, different linguistic background, lack of practices, different ability of the students were the major challenges found in this study. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction of the study which consists of background of the study, statement of problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, and operational definitions of the key terms. Likewise the second chapter is about the review of the theoretical as well as empirical literature and its implications for the study and the conceptual framework. The third chapter contains methodological procedures. It includes design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, data collection tools, data collection procedures, data analysis and interpretation procedures and ethical considerations. Finally, references and appendices are attached at the final part of the study.Item Use of mother tongue in English classes at basic level in community schools(Department of English Education, 2023) Chaudhary, BhagiramThis research entitled Use of Mother Tongue in English Classes at Basic Level in Community Schools was conducted to explore the roles of mother tongue instruction in English classes and challenges faced by Basic level English teachers.I used survey research design to carry out this research work. The population of the research included all the Basic Level English teachers of Community schools of Bardiya District. In addition, thirty English teachers were selected as the sample for the study by using non-random purposive sampling.I used a set of questionnaire which consisted of close and open-ended questions to collect the data. The data were analyzed and interpreted descriptively with the help of tables. The study showed that teachers used mother tongue for various purposes namely for giving complex instruction, cooperation, teaching difficult vocabulary, for motivation and providing feedback, for reducing inhibitions. Similarly, students from Tharu community used Tharu language; when they could not understand the meaning and concept of certain words, for asking questions, describing pictures and they also used mother tongue for promotion of cognitive development, building rapport with students, increasing students’ participation in activities. Additionally, it was found that the overuse of mother tongue in English classes reduced exposure, made the students lazy and hampered the learning, cannot pronounce English words correctly, lack of confidence to speak, reduced students’ opportunity to practice English speaking and listening. This thesis consist of five chapters.
