Item Problems in Managing Elt Classroom(Faculty of English Education, 2012) Budha, DineshThis research study entitled “Problems in Managing ELT Classroom” attempted to find out the problems in managing ELT classrooms for effective English language teaching. This study accounts for the problems of classroom management in lower secondary and secondary level classes. For this purpose, I collected data in which total sample population of the study was sixty: fifty students and ten teachers. The students were selected by using random (simple random) sampling procedure and the teachers who were teaching at the same level were purposively selected. I developed a check list and questionnaire to collect the data and the data were analyzed descriptively. This study found that the condition of ELT classroom management was not satisfactory. The major problems were such as lack of furniture, teaching materials, proper maintenance of the classroom etc. This study consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with the introduction to the research which includes introduction, review of the related literature, and objective of the study and significance of the study. Chapter two discusses the methodology adopted for the study in terms of sources of data, sample population, sampling procedure, tool for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. Analysis and interpretation of the data are given in chapter three. The analysis is presented using three criteria viz. identification of problems of ELT classroom management, interpretation of the classroom observation and analysis. This thesis concludes major findings and recommendations / pedagogical implications in chapter four and ends with references and appendicesItem Problems in Managing Elt Classroom(2012) Budha, DineshThis research study entitled “Problems in Managing ELT Classroom” attempted to find out the problems in managing ELT classrooms for effective English language teaching. It also identified the challenges to the building good rapport with the students. I used qualitative research method adopting narrative inquiry design to carry out the study. The population of the study included all the secondary level English language teachers from Kathmandu district. Four English language teachers were selected as the sample for the study by using non- random purposive sampling. Required data were elicited conducting open ended in-depth interview. The data were analyzed by using thematic approach. From the analysis and interpretation of the data, it was found that the teachers used different strategies of rapport building with the students in ELT classroom such as knowing the students, respecting them, treating equally to them, listening to them and their problems, recognizing birthdays, sharing personal topics, conducting interactive activities, behaving with them friendly, moving around in the classroom, using sufficient teaching materials in the classroom and students talking time in the classroom. Moreover, rapport building has a significant role to make the students motivated and satisfied towards learning as well as help to have high academic performance. Besides that, findings of the study also showed that it is difficult to establish good rapport with students in heterogeneous, diversified and overcrowded classrooms for teaching and learning. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first introduction chapter consists of background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, rationale of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. Similarly, second chapter deals with the review of theoretical as well as empirical literature and its implication for the study. Moreover, it also includes the conceptual framework. Likewise, the third chapter deals with the methodology of the study which covers design and method of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data, data collection procedures, data analysis procedures, and ethical considerations. Similarly, the fourth chapter includes the results and discussion. Finally, the fifth chapter incorporates the conclusions and recommendations of this research.Item Students’ Perceptions of Teachers'Corrective Oral Feedback in ELT Classroom(Faculty of Education, 2017) Gairey, SapanaThe title of my research was ‘Students Perceptions ofTeachers' CorrectiveOral Feedback in ELT Classroom. The main objectives of this research study were toexplore students’ perceptions towards teachers’ oral feedback on their speaking and tosuggest some pedagogical implications. A quantitative research design was used inthis study. This studywas carried out using bothprimary and secondary sources ofdata. For, primary data, sixty students were selected from two secondary schoolsofTanahunDistrict. I used both closed and open-ended questions to elicit the requireddata. The data were collected by doing classroom observation and group discussion. Itwas found that the students would like to get positive feedback and sometimes bothsimultaneously to improve themselves. Studentswould liketo be informed about theirmistakes rather than readymade answers by the teachers. The majority of the studentswere found paying attention to the teachers’ feedback. They also suggested some tipsfor helping them to revise more successfully. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with thebackground of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, researchquestions, significance of the study, delimitations ofthe study, and operationaldefinitions of the key terms. The second chapter presents the review of theoreticalliterature, review oftheempirical literature, implication of the review for the study, and conceptual framework. Similarly, the third chapter deals witha methodology thatincludes research design and method of the study, study area, population, sample andsampling procedure, sources of data, data collection techniques and tools, datacollection procedure, data analysis, andinterpretation procedure andethicalconsiderations. Likewise, the fourth chapter deals withtheanalysis and interpretationof results. And the fifth chapter presents findings, conclusions, and recommendations. This chapter is also followed by referencesand appendices.Item Teachers’ Beliefs Towardslearners’ Role in Elt Classroom(Department of English Education, 2012) Ghimire, RajeshworThe thesis entitled Teachers’ Beliefs Towards Learners’ Role in ELT Classroomis an attempt to explore teachers’ beliefs towards learners’ role in ELT classroom. The study was mainly conducted considering the fact that it adds a brick in the field of teacher development and ELT and helps English teachers to make their class lively. Similarly, this study was conducted by considering the fact that teachers’ beliefs towards learners’role shape the teaching behaviour of the English language teachers. The study was carried out to find out teachers’ beliefs towards learners’ role in ELT classroom. To meet the objectives of this research, 10teacherswhoareteaching in different schools of Tanahun district were selected as the primary sources of data and I used interview as a tool for data collection. This research concludes that most of the teachers hold beliefs that learners are more important than the teacher in the classroom and learners cannot learn English passively, they should be active in the classroom. It means learners cannot learn only from teachers so they have to explore, read different types of resources and take active participation in different types of activities. Similarly all teachers hold beliefs that learner scan help for teachers’ professional development. I have divided this thesis into four chapters: Introduction, Methodology,Analysis and Interpretation and Findings and Recommendations. The first chapter deals with the general background, review of the related literature, objectives of the study and the significance of the study. The second chapter contains the methodology which is sub-chaptered as the sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and the limitations of the study. The third chapter includes the analysis and interpretation of the data obtained from the field. The last or the fourth chapter reports the findings along with recommendations in which some pedagogical implications have been recommended on the basis of the findings of the study.Item Teachers’ Practices on Instructional Techniques in ELT Classroom”(Department of English Education, 2015) Paudel, SagarThe present research study entitled“Teachers’ Practices on Instructional Techniques in ELT Classroom” aimed to explore the lower secondary level English teachers practices on different instructional techniques in ELT classroom regarding warm up activities, teachers’ physical presence in the classroom, teachers’ voice, teachers’ role, teachers’ and students’ talk, students’ seating, teaching materials and group and pair work.To meet the objectives of this research study, I selected 30 lower secondary level English teachers from 30 lower secondary schools of Baglung district using purposive non-random sampling procedure as sample for this study. Two lower secondary level English teachers from each school were selected for this study.Questionnaire and Classroom observation checklist were used to collect the data for this study. The findings of this study showed that lecture was the commonly used technique as 46.67% lower secondary level English teachers used lecture, explanation, illustration, discovery and individual instructions to teach their students. Likewise,it was found that director, monitor, manipulator, facilitator, co-communicator, friend, resource person were the most performed roles by the teachers while their students were working in pair and group and it was found that students were seating in orderly rows in all the classes. This thesis is organized into five chapters. The first chapter deals with the background of the topic, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, de-limitations of the study and operational definition of the key terms. The second chapter includes review of related theoretical literature, review of related empirical literature, implication of the review for the study and conceptual framework. The third chapter coversall the areas of methodology. Likewise, the fourth chapter presents the analysis and interpretation of results and the fifth chapter includes conclusions and recommendations at three different areas (policy related, practice related and further research related).Item Teaching Strategies Used in The Elt Classroom(Central Department of English Education, 2011) Rokaya, Bala BahadurThe present studyentitledTeaching Strategies Used inthe ELT Classroomwas attemptedto find out different strategies of teaching and to compare thestrategies used by public and private higher secondary level English teachers. Both primary and secondary sources of data were used in this study.
