Item Activities Used in Teaching Poetry(2011) Phuyal, SaugatThe present study entitled 'Activities used in teaching poetry', is an attempt to explore the activities used while teaching poetry in 'New Generation English'. The study also aims to find out the students' perception on the activities employed. The study is based on both primary and secondary sources of data. The primary sources of data were teachers and students from B.Ed. first year in eight colleges of Kathmandu district. While undergoing research, the researcher used the non-probability sampling procedure to sample the population. Eight B.Ed. colleges of Kathmandu district were selected on the basis of judgmental sampling. The researcher finds various activities like, pre-reading activities, while reading activities and post-reading activities are being used while teaching poetry in 'New Generation English'. The researcher also finds the students' perception on the activities employed. Majority of the students are found to be satisfied with pre-reading activities performed by their teachers whereas they are found not to be satisfied with while-reading activities and post-reading activities. This study incorporates four main chapters and other many sub-chapters. The first chapter deals with the general background of the study, review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter consists of the methodology, data gathering procedure, and limitations of the study. Similarly, the third chapter induces the analysis and interpretation of data. In the same way, the fourth chapter presents findings and recommendations based on the analysis and interpretation of the collected data. The final parts of the study consists of references and appendices.Item Attitudes of Teachers Towards Teaching Poetry at Secondary Level(Department of English Education, 2015) K.C., GaneshThis study was on Attitudes of Teachers towards Teaching Poetry at Secondary Level. Main purpose of the present study was to find out attitudes of teachers towards teaching poetry at secondary level. The researcher selected the government aided and private schools of Surkhet district. The total sample of this study consisted of 30 secondary level English teachers who were chosen using purposive non-random procedure. It was a survey research. The tool Iused was questionnaire. The data collected from the teachers was analyzed and interpreted to find out the attitudes of teachers towards teaching poetry at secondary level.By this study, it was found that teaching poetry is essential and very effective to teach the language. The teachers told that teaching poetry helps teachers to teach the language effectively and poems are authentic valuable reading materials.It was also found that teaching poetry helps to develop students’ creative, reasoning, evaluating, appreciating and interpretive skill. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter includes the genera lbackground, statement of the problem, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study, operational definition of the key terms. The second chapter deals with the review of related literature and conceptual framework. The third chapter deals with methods and procedures of the study adopted during the research study, population and sample, sampling procedure,data collection tools, data collection procedures and data analysis and interpretation procedure. The fourth chapter deals withanalys is and interpretation of results. The fifth chapter deals with conclusion and recommendations. In the final part of this thes is references and appendix are included.Item Strategies for teaching poetry in English Language classrooms at secondary level(Department of English Education, 2023) Khadka, KabitaThe study is entitled Strategies for Teaching Poetry in English Language Classrooms at Secondary Level aimed at exploring the strategies of teaching poetry at secondary level and to suggest some pedagogical implications for enhancing teaching/learning poetry in the classroom. Regarding methodology, I used survey research design and randomly selected forty English teachers from twenty community secondary schools of Kathmandu District as a sample population. I used observation checklists and a set of questionnaire as data collection tools. The tools were administered to the teachers. Moreover, the data were tabulated and analyzed. The study has revealed that discussing the general background of the poem and poet is important strategy to give student a clear concept about poem. Furthermore, majority participants perceived that the strategy of giving insight on the literary movements helped students to be aware of their society. Moreover, teachers implemented the strategy of language description to make their students understand the content easily. They perceived that describing each line of the poem facilitates students to guess theme of the poem. Additionally, the majority of teachers implemented the strategy of reading poem aloud to make their students familiarize with difficult words used in the poem. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the introduction of the study that consists of background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. Similarly, the second chapter consists of review of theoretical and empirical literature, implications of the reviewed for the study and conceptual framework. Likewise, the third chapter deals with the methods of the study that consists of the design and method of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data, data collection procedures, data analysis procedures and ethical considerations. Then, the fourth chapter deals with the analysis and interpretations of data. Finally, fifth chapter deals with findings, conclusions and recommendations of the study followed by references and appendix.Item A Study on Strategies of Teaching Poetry at Higher Secondary Level(Faculty of English Education, 2013) Neupane, PradeepThis research is an attempt to find out the strategies in teaching poetry at higher secondary level. It also aims to suggest the effective strategies for teaching poetry at this level. In order to achieve these objectives, three research tools- questionnaire to the English teachers, class observation form and questionnaire for the students were prepared.Twenty Secondary Schools of Morang district were selected for the collection of data from the English language teachers of those schools.Five students from each school were randomly selected from where data were collected. After preparing the tools the researcher visited the selected schools of Morang district for collecting data. The researcher administered the questionnaire to the English language teachers and also took face to face interview with them. The researcher observed the classes of the poem of those teachers. Moreover, the researcher administered the questionnaire to the students of twenty selected schools to collect data.It was found that there were not any fixed strategies in teaching poem in higher secondary level. The strategies were different from one teacher to another. The condition of teaching poem was not satisfactory and the teachers were not adopting communicative approach of teaching. Itwas found that in some cases the teachers were unaware of the purpose of teaching poem. The preliminary and follow up activities were found too weak. It was found that teaching poem is most in language teaching. It can contribute a lot to develop language skills, cultural enrichment and creativity of the students. The present study consists of four chapters: Chapter one deals with general background, objectives of the study, significance and review of related literature. viii Chapter two deals with methodology of the study under which sources of data, population of the study, tools for data collection and limitations of the study are presented. Chapter three deals with the analysis and interpretation. The analysis is done in two sections.The first section deals with the analysis of collected data in terms of strategies and the second section gives some suggestions of effective strategies for teaching poetry. Chapter four deals with the summary, findings and recommendations of the study.Item Techniques of Teaching Poetry at Secondary Level(Faculty of English Education, 2021) Karki, NabinThis study entitled "Techniques of Teaching Poetry at Secondary Level" is an attempt to find out the techniques employed in teaching poetry. This research aims to identify the factors affecting the selection of the techniques. The researcher collected the data from both primary and secondary sources. Twenty classes of 20 English language teachers teaching poetry at secondary level schools of Itahari sub metropolitan city were selected using a non-random judgmental sampling procedure and observed by using class observation checklist. Likewise a set of questions were asked to the secondary level English teachers who have been teaching at different 20 schools in Itahari sub-metropolitan city. Through the research it was found that the teachers teaching at secondary level in Itahari sub metropolitan city used teacher centered techniques more than student centered techniques. It was also found that description, drawing background, reading aloud, translation, recitation, memorization, demonstration, summarization, discussion, comprehension, lecturing, investigation, integrating Ed. Tech, group work, pair work, etc are the techniques used by the teachers teaching at secondary level in Itahari sub-metropolitan city. The research found that description technique was used by most of the teachers while thematic description, memorization, drawing background, and summarization techniques were used by least number of the teachers. Similarly different factors such as format of the question asked in examination, classroom setting, students' background knowledge and cultural background, time, material, resources and the nature of the poem are responsible to select the techniques while teaching poetry at secondary level. This study consists of five chapters. Chapter one deals with the general background, problems, objectives, research questions, significance, and operational definition of the key terms and delimitations of the study. Ten secondary English language teachers and eighty students of Ilam district were selected for the study. The researcher prepared questionnaire as tools for the teachers to find out the strategies and techniques of teaching poem; questionnaire for the students to find out the strategies followed by their teacher while teaching poem; and class observation form to find out the strategies and complexities what are actually found in the class. The collected data were tabulated and interpreted using different tables, diagrams and percentage. The researcher found not satisfactory teaching strategies used by the English language teachers while teaching poem in the classroom. Different strategies were used by the different teacher. The teachers were not confident and clear about what type of strategies should be used while teaching poem at secondary level. This report has been divided into five chapters. The first chapter deals with general background statement of the problem, rational of the study, objective of the study, significance of the study and delimitation of the study. The second chapter deals with the review of related literature, its implication for the study and theoretical framework. The third chapter deals with methods and procedures of the study. It contains design of the study, population and sample, sampling procedure, data collection tools, data collection procedure and data analysis as well as interpretation procedure. The forth chapter deals with results and discussions. It is the core chapter of the study. The results and discussions were done in two sections. Section-A deals with the analysis and interpretation of collected data in terms of strategies and section - B deals with the analysis and interpretation of collected data in terms of complexities. In Chapter five deals with summary, conclusions and implications. Furthermore, the implication has been poem in three levels. Policy level, practice level and further research.Item Use of Techniques in Teaching Poetry(Faculty of English Education, 2012) Bhatt, NareshThe present study entitled "Use of Techniques in Teaching Poetry" attempts to present a survey study descriptively and find out the techniques adopted in teaching poetry at higher secondary level. To complete this study, class observation form was prepared and 40 English teachers class were selected for observation. Those classes were interpreted on the basis of 12 different criteria. The data were analyzed and interpreted using simple statistical tools and presented with the help of table, pie- chart and bar- diagram. It was found that different techniques of teaching poetry were not used properly. Similarly, it was also found that teachers were mainly using teacher-oriented techniques. From the pedagogical perspective, teachers were not found consistent regarding the use of different techniques which are necessary for teaching poetry. This study consists of four chapters. Chapter one introduces the study in term of general background, review of related literature, objective of the study. Likewise, chapter two deals with methodology applied to carry out the study. The sources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, and limitation of the study are included in this chapter. Chapter three includes the analysis and interpretation of data. Chapter four incorporates the findings and recommendations for pedagogic implications.
