Item Bachelor Level Students’ Proficiency on Free Writing(Faculty of Education Tribhuwan University, Kirtipur, Kathmandu, 2016) Pokhrel, Kamala7 ABSTRACT This study entitled "Bachelor Level Students’ Proficiency on Free Writing" has aimed at finding out the proficiency of students on free writing and identify the errors in their writing. The researcher collected data from the Bachelor first year students, studying in education and Management Faculties. To generate relevant data, the researcher used test items using the survey research. The total sample was 30 students; 15 students from Education Faculty and 15 from Management Faculty. The required data were gathered by using purposive non random sampling procedure . This research study concludes that free writing proficiency of the students is not satisfactory . Students could not complete the target length. While writing, organization of knowledge, subject mater, presentation, illustrations, are poor. Most of the errors found in the use of comma, then, use of full stop, capitalization and other punctuation markers. Errors are found in subject verb agreement, tense spelling and preposition as well . This research report consists of five chapters. Chapter one deals with general background, statement of problem, objectives, research questions and operational key terms. The second chapter consists of literature review, implications of the literature review and theoretical framework of the study. The third chapter deals with design and methods of the study, population, sample and sampling of the strategy, study area, data collection tools and techniques, data collection procedures, data analysis and interpretation procedure. Similarly, the fourth chapter covers the analysis and interpretation of results and the last chapter incorporates the conclusions and recommendations.Item Causes of Low Enrollment of Girls Student in Optional Mathematics at Secondary Level in Parsa District(DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS EDUCATION CENTRAL DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION UNIVERSITY CAMPUS TRIBHUVAN UNIVERSITY KIRTIPUR , KATHMANDU, 2017) Yadav, Brijkishor PrasadThe study entitled "Causes of Low Enrollment of Girls Students in Optional Mathematics" is a case of study that attempts to indentify the causes of low enrollment of girls students in optional mathematics at secondary level. The main objective of this study was to analyze the causes of low enrollment of girls students in optional mathematics and to explore the remedial ways of low enrollment of girls students in optional mathematics. The study was qualitative design in case study approach. Shree Babulal Hansbahini Secondary School was the study site of my study. 15 students were taken as key respondent and purposive sampling methods was using for collecting the data. To achieve the objective interview, focus group discussion and classroom observation were used as research tools. Firstly, I visited the sample school, consult with Head teacher, subject teacher of the school , clarify them about the objective of the study and took permission for classroom observation , interview and focus group discussion. After that studied previous research deeply and linked the collected data with theories by triangulation way. From the analysis of data it was found that teaching without contextualization, rote learning, fearful environment of classroom, lack of confidence and practices without understanding were the main causes of low enrollment of students in optional mathematics. And further it was found that the ways to minimize low enrollment were: Making teaching learning activities interesting and lively, understand the mathematical concept rather than memorizing, making our mathematics education culturally relevant and contextualized.Item Civic Pluralism: A Quest to Address Secondary School Curriculum of Nepal(Faculty of Education, 2009) Acharya, Devi PrasadThe main purpose of this study was to find out the perceptions of different ethnics groups of people on civic education, civic knowledge and civic values and its representation in the secondary school curriculum of Nepal. This study also identifies how far the Nepalese secondary school level curriculum has given place to civic ducation. This study followed qualitative research methodology to identify the perceptions of different individuals on civic education and its knowledge and values. The field study was conducted in Lalitpur district Saibu VDC word no. 6, 7 Bhaisepati. The research participants were the people from three ethnic groups, school teachers and SLC graduates. For the collection of information in-depth interviews, discussion and observation were conducted. Document study was also done to find out the situation of civic components in secondary level school curriculum. The information was collected than triangulated and interpreted linking with different theories. The findings indicate that the secondary school curriculum has not been able to address the cultural values of different ethnic groups of people. Document study shows that less value has been given to civic education in different periods of time. Teachers and students claimed that there are not enough civic contents and pedagogical processes in the secondary school level curriculum. Ethnic civic cultural values are largely ignored. Civic education has got less priority in secondary school level curriculum. In this context, it is there fore concluded that there is need to address ethnic civic values and socio cultural orientations in school level curriculum as well as contextualizing at the local attitudes and constitutional knowledge etc should be incorporated in social studies and other subjects like EPH, Nepali and English subjects also in secondary level school curriculum. level. The study aims to analyze the performance of secondary level students on calculus-based tasks and to explain the causes of achieving that level of performance by them. The research is conducted among 104 students in different nine secondary level schools of Baitadi district in Nepal. This research uses embedded design. The study uses interview and achievement test as its research tools of data collection. The research analyzes data obtained from achievement test with the help of mean, standard deviation and variance. In addition to this, raw data obtained from interview is coded and it is categorized into certain model then data is given certain themes. Cross match is adopted to maintain the credibility, trustworthiness and reliability of the data obtained from the interview. Related literatures, theories and concepts which are relevant to this study have been used to interpret and made reflection over the analyzed information. The study shows that students‟ performance in mathematics especially in calculus is affected by nature of curriculum, students‟ attitude towards mathematics, their prior knowledge, tuition time they take, peer interaction, school environment, parental involvement and, teachers‟ attitude towards mathematics and students. Students in Baitadi district have low performance in calculus based tasks because of the lack of conceptual knowledge, lack of factorization skill, wrong substitution of the value and calculation error. This study is important for curriculum designers, parents, teachers and students as it presents the reasons for secondary level students‟ low performance in calculus-based tasks and suggests some ways to improve their performance in the same area.Item Factors Affecting Students Low Enrollment in Mathematics(Faculty of Education Mathematic, 2017) Khadka, Dhalak BahadurMathematics is the one of the important subjects in human life. It is widely used to solve the daily life problems. However, most of the students fear from the mathematics and feel that is it difficult to grasp. The study entitled “Factors Affecting Students Low Enrollment in Mathematics” is a qualitative in descriptive nature attempts to identify the factor affecting students’ low enrollment in mathematics at bachelor level and to dig out the possible way to enhance the enrollment of students in mathematics. To achieve this objective interview guidelines with campus chief, mathematics teacher, students and parents as well as observation form was conducted to collect primary data from Deukhuri Multiple Campus, Lamahi, Dang. For this researcher had taken total 16 students from different aspects as from those who were 4 mathematics, 2 non mathematics and 10 shifted other subject from mathematics.. The obtained data was developed on conceptual understanding of the study and then data was analyzed by weighted mean using three Likert scale. Problem related to prior knowledge, teacher efficiency, assessment system, course difficulty and out of content but contextual factor with physical facilities, awareness and plans of parents, home environment, students’ regularity and problem related to administration. This study is based on current issue as to why the bachelor level of mathematics education is severally facing crises of students’ enrollment. Lack of prior knowledge, teacher efficiency, assessment system, course difficulty and out of content but contextual factor with physical facilities, awareness and plans of parents, home environment, students’ regularity and problem related to administration are causative factor in reducing the enrollment of the students. Similarly, poor job market, impact of peers and society and less responsible factor for low students’ enrollment.Item Listening Proficiency of Bachelor Level students(Department of English Education, 2012) Itani, LaxmiThe present research work is an effort to find out the“Listening proficiency of the Bachelor’s level Students on the basis of IELTS module”. In order to carry out this study, I collected data from the six different campuses in Kathmandu valley. The total population of the study consisted of 120 students who were selected by using nonrandom sampling procedure. The main tool that I made use of was a-4 section listening test from Cambridge IELTS-4, past papers. The total number of test itemswas40,each test item carrying 1 mark. The scores obtained by the students were tabulated on the basis of variables specified. On the basis of the collected data, the students’ proficiency in listening comprehension was determined using simple statistical tools such as mean and percentage. The findings of the study show that the average listening proficiency of the bachelors level is49.09 per cent (i.e,5 band score level according to IELTS score), which is below the level specified in the standard test, IELTS for the academic studies in the English speaking countries. The study consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with general background of the research study, the aim of the research, review of related literature, objectives of the study, and significance of the study. Chapter two deals with methodology with entails sources of data sampling procedure, tools for data collection and limitation of the study. Chapter three entails analysis and interpretation of data by using the explanatory and descriptive approaches. The data were analyzed on the basis of variables that were specified in the objectives, i.e. faculty wise and male vs. female.The four chapters include findings and recommendations of the study where findings have been drawn with the help of analysis and interpretation and recommendations have been presented based on those findings. Finally, the sample of the collectedprimary data and references has been presented.Item Problems and Challenges Faced by Tharustudents in Learning English(Department of English Education, 2019) Chaudhary, Hira KumariThe study entitledProblems and Challenges Faced by Tharu Students inLearning Englishwas conducted to explore problems and challenges faced byTharu students in learning English. The study followed survey research design.Sixty Tharu students and four secondary level English language teachers fromfour community schools of Gadhawa, Dang were selected as the sample usingnon-random purposive sampling procedure. To elicit the data I used twodifferent sets of questionnaires consisting both open-ended and close-endedquestions to Tharu students and English teachers. The study found that theperception of Tharu students towards English is interesting.Similary,the Tharustudents are facing English language related problems and challenges such as,complex rules of grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, slang colloquialism. TheEnglish teachers opined that they are also facing problems and challengeswhile teachingEnglish language to Tharu students. This thesis consists of five different chapters. The first chapter consists ofbackground of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study,research questions, significance of the study, delimitations ofthe study andoperational definition of the key terms. The, second chapter deals with thereview of theoretical as well as empirical literature and its implication for thestudy; moreover, it includes the conceptual framework. Finally,the fifth chapter incorporates the findings and conclusion of the studyfollowed by some policy related, practice related and further researchrelatedrecommendation based of the study.Item Students’ Perception Towards Homework in Mathematics Learning(Department of Mathematics Education, 2019) Bist, Deepak BahadurAssigning homework to improve achievement of students in mathematics motivatesthem towards learning. The primary purpose of this study was to identify students’perceptions towards homework in mathematics. To accomplish this objective, theresearcher employeda cross-sectional survey in order to complete this study. The sample ofthe study comprised120 students, those studying at grade 10, from Kathmandu Valley usingrandom sampling techniques. The researcheruseda questionnaire and semi-structuredinterview as the primary data collection tools. More importantly, the researcherperformedSPSS 21.0 statistical software to analyze the data obtained from the questionnaire andthematic approachin order to analyze thedata obtained from the semi-structuredinterview.The result of the data analysis showed that students perceived homework inmathematics positively. Furthermore, the data showed that assignment was useful tounderstand mathematics more deeply and meaningfully. In addition to this, sample of studyunderscored that homework reflects their own learning progress, however it was alsoaccentuated that they did not have enough time for extracurricular activities.There were sixfactors that significantly affect student perceptions towardsHomeworkin mathematics.These factors were individual skills of language, math, and reasoning along with motivation,quality of the assignment, teacher feedback, and the environment in which homework iscompleted.It is affirmed that the amount of homework and students’ progress record mustbe matched before assigning it.Item Terms of Address in English and Baitadeli(Department of English Education, 2011) Karki, Surya BahadurThis thesis entitled “Terms of Address in English and Baitadeli” looks in tohow the speakers of two languages select the termsof address according to theaddressee’s age, sex, status or relationship. The informantsof the Baitadeliwere asked to respond to questions in the written form. The study made acomparison of the terms of address used for consanguinal relations, affinalrelations and social relations including strangers, friends, teachers and students,people holding professional positions like officers, doctors, nurses and others inBaitadeli society. The data was collected from 80 native speakers of Baitadeliin Baitadi district. The sources of data for the terms of address in English werebased on the previousresearches and different relatedbooks. The researcherhas found that Baitadeli is far richer in terms of address in comparison toEnglish. This thesis contains four chapters.The first chapter contains generalbackground, review of the related literature, objectives of the study,significance of the study. Similarly, the second chapter is related to themethodology, which deals with sources of data, populationof study, samplingprocedure, research tools, and process of data collection andlimitations of thestudy. Likewise, the third chapter is comprised of analysis, interpretation and presentation of the data obtained. Finally, the fourth chapter contains thefindings, recommendations and pedagogical implications of the study.Thischapter is followed by references and appendices.
